Sickness

Well the dreaded lurgy has hit the Hazelden household. Was all prepared for a nice relaxing weekend and instead ended up cleaning up sick and holding hair back, not my idea of fun I can tell you. It is the one thing I don't cope with very well so I was lucky to have daddy hazelden around really.

Luckily the two youngest ones escaped for now but they had to put up with a poorly mummy and daddy which is never a good thing.

Now I never know what to do for the best when someone has been sick, I have always had conflicting information since I was young. My mum always said it was best not to eat for 24 hours after being sick so as not to feed the bug in a sense but then when searching on the internet it says it is fine to eat after being sick. Well the husband decided to give Elise some toast after being sick and I bet you can guess what happened, yep she brought it straight back up so I am inclined to follow my mums advice. The other one I always hear about is drinking flat coke.

Have any of you got any remedies/ tricks that work for you?? Have you caught the sickness bug already this year??

Would you choose a c-section

Well I thought seen as it was doing the rounds again I would join in the debate of women being allowed to opt for a c-section instead of giving birth naturally.

When I think about giving birth to my children, I remember it being one of the best experiences of my life despite the pain. It is a wonderful and natural thing for a mother to bring a child into the world. I never even considered a c-section, infact when in labour with my first, I wasn't progressing, there was talk of a c-section and this upset me a lot!!! I felt cheated enough that I didn't get the water birth that I so longed for.

Now I am all for a c-section when it is medically necessary as that is what is best for mother and child ie if something goes wrong in labour and baby needs to come out quick or baby is breach..... Not however because a lady is scared to give birth naturally or "too posh to push". It is a serious surgery and is by no means an easier option as the recovery afterwards can be long and hard, sometimes women even struggle to hold their children afterwards. And there is always the worst case scenario that you end up with an infection after surgery.

Even after you consider all these factors people seem to be forgetting the cost of performing all of these surgeries and then what happens when an emergency c-section comes in but the operating theatre is already busy with an elective c-section??

I think you can see what side of the fence I am on. What about the rest of you, do you agree or disagree??

Why is school so expensive??

It seems like the school is asking for money for something every week, it may only be for something little but it all adds up!!!

Today they were at the gates asking for us all to buy raffle tickets, next week they want money for the kids to wear their own clothes, the week after that they want money for the school trip to the panto and the list goes on....

I get frustrated, my family get by, so I can only imagine how other parents feel that really struggle with money. Even the things that are meant to be voluntary, you some how get pressured into paying for.

We were asked to bring in cakes and biscuits at the start of the school year for a fete that we then have to buy back even though we paid for them in the first place. I wouldn't mind so much if we actually saw some difference in the school, saw that our money was actually doing some good but I never notice any changes.

I'm moaning now and I only have one child at school at the moment so things are only going to get more expensive.

Does this bother anyone else, or I am I blowing things way out of proportion??

I want candy

Well on a typically boring Friday my day was brightened by the postman ringing my doorbell. I had a delivery from Bazooka Candy as I won their #tweetforsweets competition last Friday on their twitter page @BazookaCandy. In my lovely package I received ring pops, push pops, a juicy drop pop, a big baby pop and a big baby rattlerz.

I told my daughters that they were all for mummy :-)

I did share in the end though, kept them quiet for quite a while I must say, they all got in a lovely sticky mess.

^^^^^^ That is whats left I have a feeling they will be gone by the end of the day. ^^^^^

When to put up the decorations??

Well the tradition goes the you should have your Christmas decorations up for the 12 days of Christmas so they would go up Christmas Eve and then come down arounf the 6th of January.

Now these days that tradition seems to have been thrown out of the window!! Shops have their decorations up the minute halloween is over and towns are switching on their Christmas lights throughout November.

I put my hands up I am one of many who puts there decorations up early. When I was living at home the decorations would be put up around the middle of December but when I moved out I decided that I would put my decorations up on the 1st of December. What can I say, I am a big kid who just loves the magic of Christmas and all that comes with it. However every year since I have moved out my decorations have gone up slightly earlier each time, my dad and I compete as to who has got theirs up first. I really am one of those people you love to hate I'm afraid. I think my decorations will be going up around the 27th November this year.

So what about you, are you traditional, do you have your own traditions when it comes to decorations?? Or are you a big scrooge that doesn't have decorations??

Freyas turn to grow up . . .

Well today I applied for Freya to start primary school in 2012, it is an exciting yet sad time!!! I miss her now when she goes to play school.

How did everyone else feel when their children started at school?? As much as I want my children to grow up and learn to be independent there are those times where I just want them to be little again and want to sit and give mummy a cuddle!!!!

It is all a little bittersweet in a sense.

Parents evening

Well Tuesday I had parents evening for Elise. I think every parent gets a bit nervous as even though you all  think your child is clever etc there is always that little bit of worry about what they are going to say.

I am pleased to report Elise is doing really well, she is above average for everything, her handwriting and sentence building is improving and she has no problems with spelling or reading. She is being encouraged to try and write longer sentences and form more opinions instead of seeing everything as right or wrong.

There were two things flagged up though. Number one the problem is she knows she is clever and sits there saying in front of the other kids that the work is easy, oops!! Not the worst crime but I need to make her aware that some of the other children don't find things quite as easy as her. Her other problem is one of her best trates too. She likes to help but sometimes this can be seen as bossy as she does try and take over and a couple of times she has tried to "help" the teacher a bit too much and has needed reminding that it isn't her problem and to sit down *blushes*.

All in all though it was a very proud mummy moment for me as it confirms that I am doing a job with her which is always nice to know as sometimes I worry that maybe I need to be doing more with my children, I think we all get that feeling don't we??

Snack Time

Well in my house the kids have been brought up to have three meals a day and one or two snacks a day.

The trouble is I am running out of ideas of what to give them for a snack that isn't too expensive. I give them sweets sometimes but I like them to have the healthy option more often than not. You would think after having three children that I wouldn't have a problem with coming up with ideas.

My snack list at the moment consists of raisins, dried fruit, cereal bars, crackers, dry cereal like cheerios, carrot and celery sticks, fruit, then I start to lose steam. I get bored by having the same things all the time so I'm sure the kids do too. Always nice to have new things to try.

What about everyone else, do you opt for the healthy option more often than not or is snack time more treat time in your house?? What do your kids ask for??

Rain rain go away....

So I think the nice weather of Summer is finally fading away and in it's place comes Autumn and Winter.

I got soaked just walking the kids to school today, think I need to invest in a hands free brolly!!! I also need to invest in a nice pair of wellies I think.

Girls were happy as this means splashing in puddles, why does peppa pig have to encourage this lol.

Gracie refuses to have a rain cover on which is a pain as she also refuses to keep hats or hoods on and I don't want her getting poorly. Does anyone else have this problem, any solutions out there??

The only good thing about it getting colder and wetter is that I know Christmas is coming :-) only 52 days.

Back to school blues

Well I have to admit I really dislike it when the girls go back to play school/ school after the holidays and I think Gracie does too.

As much as I complain about the noise and the mess when the kids are here, it is far too quiet when they are not around. However the mess is still the same as Grace manages to get every single toy out to play with the little monkey. Gracie feels lost as she doesn't have anyone to play with, apparently mama just isn't good enough!!!

I am already looking forward to the Christmas holidays.
