Yes I have four girls!!

The question that I hear from a lot of people when they notice how many children I've got and the fact that they are all of one gender, "you have four girls?".

People think I'm mad in the first place for having four children, why I really don't know because I find having four children no more difficult than having two children. And these same people seem to think it is a bad thing to have all daughters.

Do I think what it would be like to have a boy sometimes, of course I do, I had the same boys name picked out each time I was pregnant. I know Daddy Hazelden feels rather outnumbered sometimes but we honestly wouldn't have it any other way. The girls have already been fishing with their dad a couple of times and he sits them down with him to watch his history programmes in the TV (boring), I don't see that it would have been any different if we had a boy in the mix.

If I am honest when I was pregnant with Layla I was terrified of the thought that I might have a boy because having had all girls, I was worried that I wouldn't know what to do with a boy. Until my 20 week scan I really did think that I was having a boy because my pregnancy was so different to the others, we soon discovered it was another little lady in there!!

The best thing about having all girls is how well they get along, well for now anyway, I am quite sure that will all change when they reach the magic teenage years, especially if they are anything like their mummy was. For now they seem to have separated themselves into pairs, Elise and Gracie and Freya and Layla, it is really lovely to see how they interact, not only sisters but best friends too.

The only difficulty comes when trying to buy birthday and Christmas presents for them all because as I am sure you can imagine, we have doubles and triples of a lot toys in this house, they have all taken on mummy's obssession of pushchairs, so along with mummy's growing collection we are quickly running out of space!!

I love my girls to the moon and back and I would never want my family any other way although I think Daddy Hazelden is seriously considering buying himself a dog to keep him company sometimes :)

Do you think there is a perfect size family to have? If you only had one gender of child, would you keep going until you got the boy or girl?

  1. I always thought 4 ( and 5) were easier than 2, always somebody to play with.
I had 2 girls first, have to say 2nd time I had thought it was a boy as both pregnancies so different, and time number 3 came along I wanted 10 fingers and toes and preferably healthy wasnt fussed about the sex as we wanted a child not a boy.
I swapped all my baby girl stuff in the loft with a friend who had just had a girl after 3 boys, saved us both a fortune.

  2. We have one of each.

I remember crying when I found out that Oscar was a boy. I was happy, don't get me wrong, but I was also scared that I didn't know how to look after a boy. It's brilliant though - he's a little smasher!

If he'd been a girl I don't think we'd have specifically tried for a boy but if we do decide to have another baby in the future I wouldn't be worried whatever the gender :)

  3. I have two boys and am very happy with that - makes everything so much easier and cheaper!!

I think its really sad that people crave a specific gender and get disappointed at the scan, i just feel so lucky to have my two when i know many other people who are having problems.

Your girls are gorgeous :) xx

    1. It is so true, I feel very lucky to have my family, I have quite a few friends that have struggled to fall pregnant and things like that always make you count your blessings x

  4. I've got two girls, and I think I prefer it this was as there is a big age gap between them. They get on really well, not sure the bond would be as strong if they were different genders

I have 2 boys, so I think I can relate (to the gender and questions, not the number).

  10. We have a boy and a girl, and people are always shocked when I say we plan to have a third. 'But you've already got the perfect little family with one of each!' they say.

We really didn't mind either way what we had, as long as our children are healthy and happy - and we both come from families of three so I think that's a nice number.

All children are unique - no matter what gender they are!

    1. yes they are all very unique, I find funny how different each one of my daughters have been, although they have their similarities as well. I always thought I would have been happy with a boy n a girl but that was before I actually started having children, I know now that I wouldn't have been content with that, I was born to be a mum :)

  11. What gorgeous girls! I get exactly the same thing and I've only got two girls. I'm always asked if I want to try for a third so that I can have a son. I find it quite rude that people think I wouldn't be delighted with my lot!

  12. I have a 'pigeon pair' and love the dynamic they have and how they get on. But I have 3 sisters and a brother so well know how those big families work too - I love my sisters too - mostly! And yes we did and do squabble - but when the brown stuff hits the whirly thing - we're a pack and god help anyone who tries to get in the way.

  13. Great post. I always love seeing all your pics of your girls. It is unusual, but you look such a happy family. I always wanted two girls and a boy, but once I'd had my eldest I decided I wanted all boys. I see myself as a 'mum of boys' and love having two boys, but my daughter is such a bonus. I wouldn't have them any other way. I feel sad for people who really want one gender or the other and it makes them unhappy. Healthy kids are what matters!
