A Year Wasted?

I honestly can't believe that we are at the end of another year. Each year that passes seems to disappear faster than the last.

A few highlights from this year : my very last baby turned a year old, Daddy Hazelden changed careers and now works in London, I applied for Gracie to start primary school next year and we managed to have an amazing family holiday in Ibiza.

However the upsetting thing for me is that when I look back and reflect on what I have achieved in this time, it feels as though I have done very little, like a year has been somewhat wasted.

I rarely set new years resolutions because I always seem to break them, you know the usual ones :

* Lose weight - well after losing a couple of pounds I always manage to find them again plus a couple of extra ones.

* Eat healthier - as I say this I am tucking into a lovely packet of peanut butter cups.

This year I don't want to say I'm setting new years resolutions, more like small goals and instead of ones I know I will give up on trying to achieve, I'm picking things that I know I will be motivated to sticking to and I'm hoping by writing it down here that I can look back at this post one year from now and put an imaginary tick by each one.

So my goals for the coming year :

* Take more pictures of my children - I saw a lot of people this year joining in with project 365, the idea is to take a photo every day. I hate to admit but as each child has come along, I have taken photos of them less and less so I want to put a little spin on this and take four photos a day, one of each of my children. I think it will be a lovely thing to look back on at the end of year and see how they have grown and changed.

* Regular family activity time - If you read my blog you will have seen that I do a lot of baking with my children but I want to switch it up a little by adding in different activities that we can all do as a family.

* Home improvements - We have lived in the same house now for over 9 years and I think because we rent, we have never really done anything to make it our own as such. I want to change that, I already have a few projects in mind and I will be blogging about them as they are done.

* Make more time for me - I don't want this to sound selfish but since having children I don't even get to go to the toilet by myself, so 2014 is going to be the year I start looking after myself as well as my children, even if that just means I get to have a wee with the toilet door closed!!

* Learn to love myself  - Instead of setting the usual goal of losing weight, eating healthier, exercising more etc, I am setting myself the harder task of learning to love myself, start being able to look in the mirror and not hate what I see in the reflection.

As well as these goals, I am hoping to set myself monthly targets too, sort of like the bucket lists that Colette from We're Going on an Adventure has been writing. I'm determined that 2014 will not be wasted!!!

Are you setting any resolutions/goals this year, did you stick to any that you set in previous years??

xxxx

  1. I don't think it sounds like your year was wasted at all but I do know what you mean.

I too don't make resolutions as such as I never keep to them.

Next year I have set a goal that in 3 months I will go and spend my xmas and birthday vouchers and buy new jeans...I want them to be a size smaller but won't beat myself up if they aren't.

Happy new year and thank you for linking up with 'Looking Back'.
