10 months of loving you

The saying really is true, time does fly when you are having fun!!

Can you believe that Layla is 10 months old already, it feels like yesterday that I gave birth to her.

Now I'm going to put my hands up and admit that I am a naughty mummy. When my eldest was born we took lots and lots of photos, when my second and third were little, I got a bit slack on the photo taking, smacks my own hand. So this time round I have been trying to capture moments when I can, this is when my trusty iPhone comes in handy.

I thought I would show you a few pictures of Layla through the months, newborn to right now.

It is scary how quickly our little ones seem to grow up. I wish I could find that magic pause button sometimes!!!

Do you take a lot of photos, if you do, have you managed to print them all out and put them in photo albums??

The Magicbed Review and Giveaway

Introducing the Magicbed. This is a company and product created by two dads who like many other parents were growing tired of heavy, complicated travel cots when going on holidays and weekends away.

The Magibed is available in 5 different colours : blue, chocolate, black, pink and spotted pink.

Seen as I have all girls, I was sent the Magicbed in the pink colourway, which I can confirm is absolutely stunning. The majority of the cot is a beige like colour that has pink around the sides and a beautiful butterfly either side of the cot.

What you get

In the box you receive :

the Magicbed itself
a self inflating mattress
a fleece sheet
a carry bag which all of the above are placed in

Before you can use the Magicbed properly you need to leave the mattress to self inflate for 12 hours, this is done simply by undoing the cap in the corner of the mattress. Once you have done this, then each subsequent time you use the mattress it will self inflate and deflate in under a minute. Deflating the mattress is very easy, just undo the cap, roll the mattress to squeeze the air out and do the cap back up.

Setting up the mattress takes next to no time. All you do is take the strap off from around it and it instantly pops open. The mattress is then placed in a hidden slot on the bottom of the cot, you can then fit the sheet inside which is cleverly velcroed into place, no struggling to reach down and tuck things in.

As you can see from the photo above, there is a pocket either side of the cot. A small one that you can pop your phone or mp3 player in so your little ones can listen to music whilst napping and a larger zip pocket the other side, I would use this to store the sheet in when not in use.

Measuring approximately 100cm x 60cm inside, there is plenty of room for your child. Not only can you use it when on holiday or nights out, you can also use it as a place where your little one can play when you are trying to get things like housework done and you want to know that they are safe!! Layla was smiling the whole time she was in there and she slept soundly in there too, I'm taking that as a sign that it is very comfy inside!!

Folding the Magicbed is a doddle. You don't even need instructions to be able to do it. Simply place it on it's side, push near the middle and it will fold in on itself, fold over the other side, then hold it between your legs as you bring the straps back over to hold it in place.

Another great feature of the Magicbed is the travel bag that it comes in. The cot folds down very flat and to a fairly small 72cm wide, once placed in the travel bag, it only weighs 3.4kg so is light enough to carry around on your shoulder so you would be able to take it on public transport if needed.

The Magicbed truely is magical. It is as simple to set up as they say and is extremely sturdy for a pop up bed. I have been using it daily as means I don't have to keep putting Layla in her bedroom when she needs a nap, she can just sleep in her Magicbed in the lounge with me. It is very reasonably priced at £109, well worth every penny in my opinion. You can even purchase a sun canopy separately so that you can use it outside in the sunshine as well. I would recommend this to any parent.

Giveaway

Now the lovely people at Magicbed have kindly allowed me to giveaway one of their revolutionary Magicbeds to one lucky reader, all you need to do have a chance of winning is fill out the rafflecopter form below :

BundleBean Go! Review

BundleBean is something that was created by the lovely Emily Goodall, who as a mum to two children herself got overwhelmed by the amount of things that were needed when taking her little ones out, things such as changing mats, blankets and waterproofs. I'm sure many of you parents have had the same problems.

The BundleBean Go! is a product that takes all of the fuss out of those daily outings with your family.
It not only provides a brilliant alternative to footmuffs, cosytoes and blankets on the pushchair but it can also be used on car seats, baby carriers and it can even be used as a playmat/ picnic blanket.

I was sent the BundleBean Go! a couple of weeks ago to test out and review, I chose it in pink spot, however it is also available in blue spot, red star and plain black, great for boys and girls alike!!

This clever product is made out of a waterproof nylon on one side, keeping your little ones nice and dry, I love this because a lot of footmuffs etc are great for keeping your child warm but aren't so great if it was to start raining and you were without a raincover. The waterproof material on the BundleBean means you don't have to worry if you get caught short as such. On the other side it is backed with a gorgeous fleece material which means your children stay snug as a bug in a rug!!

At the bottom of the BundleBean, there are two zips, one either side which are adjustable, these are what tighten the bottom to create an elasticated pouch that you can fit around your pushchair, car seat or even a bike seat.

Now I wouldn't be giving an honest review if I didn't test the BundleBean out and see if it really was as versatile as promised. The only method I couldn't try was on a bike seat because I have to admit I do not own a bike, not a lover of cycling I'm afraid.

First I tried it on my Graco Evo Mini which is a front facing pushchair, simply doing up the velcro straps around the frame and securing the elasticated bottom around the foot rest. As you can see there is a handy pcoket on the front that your children can pop their little hands in, no need to fight to get them to keep gloves on their hands!!

Then I tried it on my Quinny Xtra in parent facing mode and as you can see from the second picture, I secured it by doing up the velcro straps around the back of the seat unit.

Layla got all excited the next time she was put in her car seat. She was most definitely one snug baby. Again I fastened the velcro round the back of the seat and then rolled the top of the BundleBean down so that she could have her arms out. There are velcro tabs at the bottom of the cover so that you can fit the bottom of it nice and securely.

Being a massive babywearing fan, I then tried it on whilst I had Layla wrapped up in a sling. This I think is when I found it most useful as it can stop not only your little but your carrier from getting wet as well. Simply attached by doing up the velcro around my neck and because the top of the BundleBean can be folded up or down, it meant Layla could have her arms out but I could also cover her up if needed.

And lastly the BundleBean got used as a blanket/playmat. Unfortunately with the lovely British weather we haven't managed to take it out on a picnic trip yet, however it is most definitely going to be taken out in the great out doors. The fleece material makes it nice and comfy for your children's bottoms and when laid out flat it is fairly spacious, as you can see from the picture above, Layla was quite happy playing away on it.

And if all this hasn't persuaded you, look at how compactly it folds down when not in use.

The BundleBean Go! really is very versatile. Suitable for newborns and upwards and priced at at only 29.99, I really think every mum should have one. It is one of those things that I wish I had found sooner. Makes for a lighter changing bag and less things for my baby brain to remember.

You can keep up to date with all the latest news and products by looking on their facebook and twitter pages.

Organised Chaos

I have people asking me on a daily basis just how I managed to have all my children ready in the mornings. My reply is simple, organisation.

As well as my own four children to get washed, dressed and fed, I also look after my friends little girl every weekday and take her to school.

Everyone thinks I'm mad, sometimes I think I am!!!

Like I said at the beginning, organisation is key. There are two things I make sure that I do the night before :

Get the school uniforms and playschool clothes out ready
and

Prepare the toothbrushes, that way they only need to wet with water the next day.

A typical day for me starts at 5.45am when Daddy Hazelden's alarm goes off. What a dreadful time to get up, after nearly 8 years of it, I still wake up grumpy, noone likes a rude awakening do they!!

This however gives me a full hour before I have to wake the kids up from their slumber. In this time I manage to :

* Get myself washed and dressed. (atleast make myself look awake)
* Do 200 sit ups.
* Make my bed and tidy my room.
* Get Daddy Hazelden's and the kids lunches prepared.
* Get a load of washing put on.
* Get the kids breakfast ready and waiting on the table

I wake the kids up 6.45am (cruel mummy). I have to get them up reasonably early because my friends little girl gets dropped off at 7.30am so I like to have my little monkeys all ready for when she arrives, otherwise they would be too busy playing instead of concentrating on getting themselves ready.

Whilst they are eating breakfast, I pester them by putting their hair up, todays request was for 3 pony tails for each of them, not sure why 3 was the magic number but who am I to argue. After breakfast is getting washed and dressed. I am quite lucky where the oldest two can sort themselves out, so I can concentrate on getting Gracie and Layla washed and dressed.

This then gives them a full hour to go ahead and play and make a nice mess for mummy to clear up after they have gone to school, oh the joys.

Now I say this is a typical day but there are always things that go wrong which means my mornings don't run as smoothly as I like. Gracie will decide to not eat breakfast because she no longer likes the cornflakes she ate the day before, or Layla will decide to wake up early to "help" mummy make the lunches and breakfast and there has got to be some sort of sibling argument to start the day, right??

Do you have a routine in the mornings or is it always a manic rush to get out of the door? I would love to know!!!

The Popband Review

As many of you will know from reading my blog, I am very lucky to have four daughters. Now at the moment only three of my four daughters have lovely full heads of hair, which I have to put up on a daily basis for school/playschool. So I was very lucky when I received some of the newly launched popbands in the post.

Popbands are hairbands that are very stretchy and soft, they promise to not rip your hair and to leave no kinks/dents when you take them out. So of course I wanted to see whether they really did work as I am forever untangling hair from hair bands and having to re wash hair because my girls have been left with a nice line where they have had their hair up all day!!

I received two different types of popband, the individual one, that comes with a crystal looking bead on it and a twin pack that includes a normal size popband and a larger one to wear like an alice band.

Each pack comes with a card which shows you what to do with the popband, and as you can see, there is more than one way to wear your popband.

My 3 year old was the first to try out her new popband, mummy came in handy and put her hair up in a nice pony tail. The popband was very easy to use, there was a good amount of stretch to it and because the material is so soft, it didn't cut into my fingers as I twisted it around.

She kept the pony tail in for approximately 5 hours and I am happy to report that when the popband was removed, there were no kinks in her hair and there was no hair pulled out or wrapped around the removed popband, success!!!

My 5 year old chose to test out the larger popband, she was able to pop it over her head and onto her hair herself. This hairband is a one size fits all, so would stretch to fit each child's head, it even fit my head and let me tell you my head isn't exactly small (all the brains in there I think!!). Even though the material is soft, it didn't slide around her head, it stayed in place nicely, no need to keep redoing it.

Now there is one other way to use the popband, which my 7 year old demonstrates in the photo below.

It really does make a stylish bracelet, especially with the jewelled bead on there!! And with so many colours to choose from, you could have a different one for each day of the week. And again because of how soft and stretchy there are, there is no danger of it cutting into your child's wrists. I always have a hairband on my wrist, you know incase of hair pulling happening, I'm sure many of you mums out there with small babies know what I'm talking about. So having a popband on my wrist looks a lot better than an older elastic covered in hair!!

With prices starting at just £4, I really would recommend the popband to anyone and everyone. You can buy individual popbands or opt to buy a multipack and with the variety of colours available, there really is something for every girl. I was so impressed with them I went ahead and bought more. My daughters keep getting annoyed with me because I keep "borrowing" their hairbands :)

You can find Popband on both facebook and twitter to keep up to date with all the latest news and offers. Why not go and say hello!!

Look mummy I can do it too

I'm sure most of you with daughters will have at one point bought them their own pushchair. I certainly have, my house is over run with not only mummy's pushchairs (little obssessed, just a little) but the children's too because they have all had one each over time.

I also like to wear my youngest it a wrap/sling too. This leaves me with my hands free to be getting on with other things. It also means that when we are going out all day I can put Gracie in a pushchair and carry Layla, makes things a lot easier!!

So when my 5 year old started copying me and trying to babywear her dolls by wrapping them in her dressing gown, as shown below, I decided it would be nice to buy her her own child size baby carrier.

Surprisingly there are a lot to choose from on various sites. Most of them made by WAHMs (work at home mums).

Here is Freya with her custom made mei tai carrying her baby.

Of course her little sister then became jealous, so she was bought her own ring sling on her birthday to carry her dollies in. Rapunzel was nice and relaxed being walked around the house.

I love watching them play like this, pretend play is fun, I just hope they don't try putting their baby sister in one!!!

Have any of your little ones got their own carriers or would you consider buying one, would love to know.

Calin Bleu Gauze Wrap Review

If you didn't know, I am a huge fan of babywearing, so when Calin Bleu sent me one of their gauze wraps to review, I couldn't of been happier.

Calin Bleu is a company based in Suffolk, England. It was established in 2005. They produce high quality, 100% cotton stetchy and woven baby wraps, as well as ring slings, bags, that are available worldwide and the best thing is they are made in the UK.

I was sent one of their gauze wraps to review.

calin bleu gauze wrap

The wrap itself has a RRP starting from £39, which is a very reasonable price in my opinion and if you were to buy more than one then you would save money.

Available in many colours, even in a limited edition Union Jack design. I received one in the teal colourway, stunning colour that can be used for either boy or girl. Some people pick the colour of their wrap based on the gender of their child, I however pick a colour that I like regardless of gender.

Made from 100% cotton gauze, the material is extremely lightweight, I would say more suitable to the Summer months because of how thin it is. It's machine washable, which is always handy when you have little ones, stains seem to appear from nowhere!! And because of how thin it is, I can tell you from first hand experience, it dries very quickly.

The wrap is available in two sizes, either medium or large. It is suggested that the larger wrap is more suitable for a parent that is a size16 or above. The medium is 4.6m long and the large is 5.2m long. I was sent the medium, which was more than enough wrap for me as I am only a small 5ft1' and a size10. If you were to choose size large then it adds £3 on to the price which I think is more than fair for an extra half a metre of fabric.

I was pleased to see that the wrap came with a fantastic set of instructions included, showing detailed pictures on how to wrap your little ones in different carries.

calin bleu instructions

Of course to really review an item, you have to test it fully so I tried the wrap out using a variety of different carries on both my 9 month old and my 3 year old.

First I tried the Front Wrap Cross Carry (FWCC). This I found very comfortable for both myself and Layla. I was able to tighten the wrap easily and keep Layla in the correct seating position.

Next I tried the Hip Cross Carry (HCC). The is almost the same as the Front Cross Carry except you are placing your little one on your hip. I find this position a good one now that Layla is getting taller and a lot more nosey!! Again very easy to do, the only problem I found, was that I was left with quite a bit of fabric so I had to wrap it around my body one more time to prevent having really long tails. I like to have the wrap slightly more gathered on my shoulder but you can easily move the wrap so that it covers your shoulder too.

And then it was my 3 year olds turn. We did a Ruck carry, which is a simple back carry. Gracie is quite small for a 3 year old, so I would say this wrap probably isn't as suited for an older sibling because the material becomes quite diggy with a heavier child wrapped in it. However I think with wraps it is a personal preference as what one person finds uncomfortable, another person finds the best wrap ever.

These are just 3 of many other carries that you could try. I would recommend looking on places like You Tube to learn how to do the different carries, they really aren't that difficult after a bit of practice.

I really love this wrap. It is a well made wrap that when worn properly, spreads the weight evenly around your back, shoulders and hips. The material is breathable, lightweight and can be folded down to be very compact. I've already decided that it will be coming on holiday with us in July!!

You can find Calin Bleu on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date with all their latest news.

Keep crawling crawling crawling

I am one very inpatient mummy. Infact I think I am the opposite to a lot of parents. Mum's that I speak to aren't in any hurry to get their little ones moving, I on the other hand cannot wait for mine to get up and go!!

My eldest three daughters all crawled by the time they were 7 months, were pulling themselves up at 8 months, cruising at 9 months and walking by the time they were 10 months. So when Layla started getting on her knees at 6 months I thought she was going to follow in her sister's footsteps, or knee slides maybe, how wrong was I.

Getting on her knees lasted a very short while and then she got lazy. With three old siblings quite willing to get everything for her, pick her up at the slightest whine, she was quite happy to stay put. I've lost count of the amount of times I used the phrase "she is no a doll".

Then suddenly this month, at 9 months, she started experimenting on her knees again, well not publicly, I caught her doing it in her cot. However one very excited mummy started waving things infront of her to encourage her to move to them, keys normally work wonders. It was Daddy Hazelden that finally got the little monkey wobbling forward by waving his chocolate bar around, who knew a Wispa could be so appealing.

Now she still isn't thrilled with the concept of moving, much prefers sitting having cuddles, so she will only begrudgingly show off this new amazing trick to people but we can definitely say she did it!!! She just needs to keep crawling crawling crawling (sung in the tune of Limp Bizkits rolling rolling rolling).

Here's to many more milestones.

Ruby and Ginger The Original Nappy Purse Review

Ruby and Ginger is a company run by Liz Rhodes and Brenda Farnhill. They originally set up the company in 2009 after becoming first time mums and it was named after their first children.

This lovely twosome appeared on Dragons Den in early 2012 and have since gone from strength to strength. Their products are available in 100 retail outlets and online across the UK and Europe.

I was sent their Original Nappy Purse & change mat to test. There are three colours you can choose from, Berries, Funky Flower and Wallpaper. I was asked which one I would like and I chose Berries.

True to their word, this a stylish yet innovative product which fits nicely into the modern parents lifestyle. Measuring at a small 27cm x 19cm x 3.5cm, it comes complete with a change mat and a free refillable wipes case.

Made out of 100% cotton, the material is both water and dirt resistant, as well as washable at 30 degrees, making it both appealing to the eye and practical. The change mat also made of the same material is backed in a soft towelling, perfect for your little ones skin.

Being a user of both cloth nappies and disposable nappies, I had the chance to see how practical the nappy purse was for both.

As you can see from the top picture, when using cloth nappies, I was able to fit in one birth to potty nappy, two washable wipes, a spray bottle of water and the changing mat, so probably only suitable to use for quick trips out rather than a full day if you wanted to take the purse ot by itself. However if you are placing the purse in a changing bag you can always pop another couple of nappies in the changing bag.

The bottom picture shows that when using disposable nappies I managed to fit in 3 nappies, the refillable wipes case and the changing mat, a lot more than with the cloth nappies. What I love is that unlike a changing bag, this nappy purse doesn't become heavy.

The nappy purse has a handle on one side so that you can take it out by itself, there is even a pocket inside to put your keys of phone. It can be placed under a pushchair, or because of the handle if, you can have it on the handle of your pushchair, it can go in a changing bag as shown here in my Miracle Box changing bag review or even in your handbag, as shown by the picture below.

And if that wasn't enough, you can even use it as a clutch bag for going out if you wanted to, so even when you no longer need to use nappies, it won't be left to get dusty in a cupboard somewhere!!!!

Priced at £20.00, I think it is great value for money. Although not as ideal for a cloth nappy user, I would still recommend it to all mums because it can not only be used for baby things, it is a treat for mummy too. If I am honest I am tempted to buy the other two designs because as I have said before, a girl can never have too many bags.

You can Ruby and Ginger on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date with all their latest news.

The Miracle Box Changing Bag Review

Never can a woman have too many bags. My husband often asked why I have so many, why do I need  them all, clearly he knows nothing about accessorising!!

And it is this reason that I got extremely excited when The Miracle Box sent me one of their new Chic range changing bags to try out.

The Miracle Box launched their first product in October 2007 at the Earls court baby show and since then have gone from strength to strength. Making birth balls, hiring out birthing pools, pre packed hospital bags and of course their stylish range of changing bags.

I received one of their new Chic changing bags in black spot but it will soon be available in red, stone and navy spot too. I think this kind of design is timeless so you don't have to worry about it going out of fashion any time soon.

As you can see from the picture above, it comes in lovely packaging and once opened up includes a change mat, buggy clips and a wet bag, as well as a built in chain in one of the pockets to hang your keys on. I couldn't believe how many pockets there were, it is definitely big enough to take everything except maybe the kitchen sink.

It is made out of 100% cotton but because it is laminated, you can easily wipe it clean and it has chrome studded feet at the bottom which I think makes it more durable, I always find the corners of my bags wearing away from being left on the floor so the feet should prevent this from happening.

I love how extendable the strap is because not only did it fit over my pushchair handles and over my shoulder, I could also wear it across my body which is extremely handy when I carry my youngest in a wrap. The only thing that could have made the strap better was some sort of padding round it as it tended to dig in a little when having it on for longer periods.

The video I have made gives you closer look at just how spacious the bag is :

Clearly I needed to test just how spacious the bag was and you will be pleased to know you can fit a lot in there. I packed the bag up when my kids were staying at nannie's house over night, so I shall list just what I put inside :

1x sleepsuit
1 x vest
1 x change of clothes
3 x bibs
2 x spoons
2 x cups
1 x change mat
1 x wet bag
1x ruby and ginger original nappy purse filled with wipes and nappies
1 x sleeping bag
1 x comforter

And as you can see from the picture below, there was still plenty more room for more items, so I can see this being a great bag to take on holiday.

Retailing at £45, I can highly recommend this changing bag to all of you, not only is it spacious and practical, it is stylish as well, a great mummy/baby accessory in my opinion.

You can find The Miracle Box on Facebook and Twitter for all their latest product news.

Disclaimer : This changing bag was sent to me free of charge for reviewing purposes but all views and opinions are my own.

Hats Hats Hats

I hope all of you are managing to enjoy some sunshine this Bank holiday weekend!!

Now that the hot weather has graced us with it's presence, it's time to dig out and dust off the Summer hats.

My children are all of an age now where they want to pick out their own clothes and accessories so I thought I would show off my children's styles.

First we have my eldest, smiley as always.

Then we have my 5 year old, always in pink.

And last of all we have Gracie rocking her newly acquired Next hat.

I still need to buy a hat for the baby but I'm struggling to find one that fits and that she can't pull off, the little monkey.

What hats are your little ones wearing??
