The Adventures of The Cuddle Pirate Book Review

the cuddle pirate book series
Books are good for not only letting your kids imaginations run wild but also for teaching them things. Kelly Elsworthy has released a series of books aimed to help children learn about healthy eating, the difference between things like and fruit and vegetables and sugary junk foods.

The Cuddle Pirate and his crew go on many exciting adventures on both land and sea. They love to eat healthy food and every time little boys and girls eat all their healthy food, he and his crew visit them for adventures. His adversary, the central villain of the series is known as the Sugar Shark. He and his gang only eat unhealthy foods such as chocolate, sugar nd fizzy drinks and are always trying to spoil the Cuddle Pirate's adventures.
The girls and I were kindly sent two books : The Jelly Giant and The Fruity Fish. As soon as you open the book you are introduced to the characters in the book, both the goodies and the baddies.

Good
The Cuddle Pirate
Blueberry Beth
Strawberry Sally
Tomato Tommy
Milky Max
Broccoli Brad
Pickles

Bad
Pop the Burping Piranha
The Sugar Shark
Choccy The Crab

Straight away you are shown that good is healthy food and bad is junk food. You can see that all the good team look happy, and clean whilst the baddies look dirty and have rotten teeth. A brilliant visual prompt to show you just what eating badly can do to your body.

Both stories managed to slide in talking about different ways that you can add fruit and vegetables into certain foods and drinks. The writing made it clear that adding sugar to foods just isn't necessary.

The illustrations from Becky Dench and the wording from Kelly worked together to paint a very vivid picture. Combining fun and exciting stories with meaningful lessons.

Funnily enough it was my youngest daughter Layla (2) who enjoyed them the most. She had a lot of fun pointing out the foods, colours and objects. She has had her nannie reading these on repeat to her.

Something that really made the books stand out was at the end of each story, there was a recipe to make. Tomato Tommy's Sunshine Smoothie and Blueberry Beth's Trifle. This allowed us to carry on the fun after reading but also gave us the opportunity to discuss the book further as we created our dishes.

The favourite book for us out of the two was The Fruity Fish but we are definitely looking forward to reading more books from the series and we are keen to see what recipes they'll come up with next.

I can see these being handy when used in school as well as at home.

Overall a brilliant start what I hope will be a great series. Combining magic and adventure with healthy eating. A great aid, especially to younger kids, getting them to make the right choices themselves when picking food independently.
