Project 365 Days 145 - 151

Ok so it has been typical half term weather, very hit and miss, rainy one minutes and sunny the next. This means we've had a mixed bag of activities going on. Baking, crafting and dvd days mixed in with days out to Chessington and exploring the woods. As you will see by this weeks project 365 photos, we have been rather busy, meaning this week seems to have flown by.

Day 145

Sunday started off as a lazy day, just chilling on the sofa in our pjs before all the baking fun started making ice cream cone cupcakes.

Just How Safe Are We On The Internet?

Technology is a part of all of ours live and the internet has become something that we just can't avoid. I spoke in an earlier post about try to live without the internet but we tend to rely on it for so much these days that it would be hard to stop using it completely.

It is strange to think that when my parents were younger there was no internet and even when I was a child the whole concept was still relatively new, I didn't actually join facebook until mid 2008. Nowadays there isn't a day that goes by that I'm not using the internet whether it be on my phone, iPad or laptop and my children already use it to play on games, research homework but just how safe are our children when left unsupervised??

I was recently given the opportunity to join a Google hangout with some fellow bloggers and David Emm, Senior Security Researcher from antivirus software provider Kaspersky Lab.
David is a parent too so has the same worries and issues as us and he offered us some great advice and top tips on just how to avoid pontential dangers online and how to make it a safer place for our children to explore.

Did you know that our children could be as little as 3 clicks away from inappropriate or adult content on when they surf the web??

Making Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes with Cake Angels

A couple of months ago I was lucky enough to be sent a package full of baking goodies from Cake Angels. The girls and I love to make cakes together so when we were asked if we would like to try out their Ice Cream Cone Cupcake kit, I immediately said yes.

To our surprise when the parcel arrived, we didn't just receive the cupcake kit, oh no, there were lots of sprinkles, icing and royal icing decorations to help us get creative.

Cow & Gates Growing Up Milk Review

I was very lucky with my eldest two, they have always ate a well balanced diet and have always had a healthy appetite. My youngrst two are the complete opposite, it isn't that they are fussy, they will quite happily eat plenty of different fruits and vegetables but it is the amount they eat that has me worried. Some days I struggle to get them to eat anything apart from breakfast, they will sit and pick at things rather than eat full meals. This in turn leaves me wondering whether they are getting enough vitamins and minerals in their diet.

I was recently sent a couple of cartons of Cow & Gate growing up milk. Could this be the answer to my problems??

Rockford's Rock Opera Review

Rockford's Rock Opera is the creation of sweetapple, it is an ecological musical story aimed at children between the ages of 6 -12 which is not self produced but self financed too.

It was first launched in the web in 2009 as an enhanced audiobook and has since gone on to captivate millions of children and parents across the world. In 2012 Sweetapple worked alongside Steve Punt (respected BBC writer and performer) to launch the story as an app which can be be bought on iTunes or android.

rockfords rock opera
Over 50,000 schools actually use the story in class as an educational tool.

The girls and I were sent codes to download the 4 chapters on to our iPad and we were also sent a DVD of these same chapters to view on our TV.

The story is about a boy from Battersea called Moog and his dog, Rockford.

Far away from Battersea is the Island of Infinity, it is the home to the last one of every extinct species, they have a secret to tell the world but the only person able to deliver this message is Moog. When Moog and Rockford travel to the Island of Infinity, they are drawn into and exciting adventure.

Sleeping Beauty Is Coming to Blu-Ray

I have always been a huge Disney fan and with four girls I certainly can't escape those Disney Princesses. Next week on the June 2nd sees the release of the Disney Classic, Sleeping Beauty on Blu-ray DVD and digital download, this means any of you who haven't managed to watch it yet (where have you been?) will now have the pleasure of watching in all its glory.

Originally released in 1959, the story follows Princess Aurora, the daughter of King Stefan and his
wife. When celebrating her arrival three good fairies - Flora, Fauna and Merryweather give magical gifts to Aurora but the evil sorceress, Maleficent does the opposite and places an evil curse upon the young Princess. The curse, she will die on her 16th birthday after touching a poisoned spindle.

Merryweather casts another spell which will allow Aurora to awake from an ageless sleep with a kiss from her one true love.

A timeless tale that you can fall in love with time and time again and of course there is that happily ever after to look forward to.

Now packed with bonus features including :

* Cine explore audio commentary

* Princess fun facts

B is for……Bridge

Last week saw the beginning of the alphabet project, a clever idea thought up by the lovely Charly from PODcast. This week is the turn of letter B. I actually had my photo taken for last week, you have to capture these things when the opportunity presents itself, so B stands for…… bridge.

I bet your thinking boring!! But this isn't just any old bridge, oh no, this is a troll bridge. Ok we know they don't exist but we manage to trick the girls every time we walk over it, there is a race to get over it as quick as you can, well unless your Gracie of course. Gracie will tell you that she isn't scared and she takes her time stepping over that bridge but you can see her looking from side to side, keeping her eyes peeled for those pesky trolls.

Read With Me #21

Welcome to this weeks Read With Me. I have to admit I got a bit caught up in one series of books last week, I actually read three books in one night, I was a tad tired the next day.

I don't know about any of you but it doesn't seem to matter how many books I read the amount of books still to be read on my kindle doesn't go down.

I think one-click on amazon has a lot to answer for!!!!

As always a big thank you to everyone that linked up last week. I really enjoy reading all of your posts and the books you recommend are always being added to my forever growing list of books to be read.

Last week Karen from Monkey Footed Mum linked up with a post telling us all about her daughter's reading achievements.

Hot Dogs and Cocktails Book Review

If I'm honest although I like to try different genres of books, historical themed stories have never been top of my list but the blurb to Hot Dogs and Cocktails, I was intrigued.

Between 9th and 12th June 1939, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth were the guests of Roosevelt at his country estate in Hyde Park, New York State, during what the first ever visit by a reigning British monarch to the United States. Coming at a time when Britain desperately needed American help in the conflict that now seemed inevitable, the meeting was front page news on bot sides of the Atlantic and imbued with huge political significance.

This book is written by Peter Conradi, the author of The King's Speech. It provides a reconstruction of the Royal tour in the run up to the war in 1939, a tour that many have probably forgotten about.

"a new and unique role in its history - to serve for one brief weekend as the unofficial capital of the entire English speaking world"

I found it made for an interesting read. Written with such finesse, I was able to picture the characters clearly and it showed that the Royal couple were somewhat a normal couple. There were moments of humour in it which made it a rather entertaining tale.

Project 365 Days 138 - 144

This week has been tough for some reason. Maybe it has something to do with the weather but the girls have been more argumentative with both myself and each other. I've not been sleeping very well and Layla  is suffering from yet another cough and cold. I'm so glad it is half term, lets hope the sun shines and we can have a better week.

Day 138

I know I'm biased but don't you think these are some gorgeous little faces, they certainly know how to make me smile.

Getting Artistic In The Garden

You may have noticed that we had some lovely sunny weather last weekend and or course you have to make the most of the sunshine, even if it is just sitting in your own back garden.

large chalks

We recently took a trip over to Canterbury and whilst in our local Tiger Store, we purchased a box of 15 large chalks for a tiny £2.

Our garden isn't very big but we thought these would be perfect for the girls to start getting artistic in the garden.

The box contained 5 different colours :

red, blue, yellow, green and white.

There was three of each colour so plenty there for the girls to share.

It was nice to have an activity that the girls could all do regardless of their age and it of course meant that I could sit back and soak up the sun rays whilst watching them, bonus!!!

LeapFrog LeapPad Ultra Review

Last year I was lucky enough to be chosen as a Babyologist by Babies R Us, I got to review the lovely musical tea party. Turns out my luck was still in because last month I got an exciting email asking me to be a Toys R Us Toyologist of course my answer was yes.

toys r us toyologist
I was asked to review the LeapFrog LeapPad Ultra along with the Leapster Explorer Monsters University Software to play on it.

Now my girls are always trying to play on my iPad so I knew before even receiving the item that they were going to love it.

The LeapPad Ultra is available in pink and green, having all girls Toys R Us must have sensed that we would prefer the pink one. It comes complete with USB lead to connect to a computer, charger and instructions. It says on the box that it come with 11 custom apps, it actually comes with 10 including art studio and pet chat. The eleventh app is one that your child can choose themselves, they get to pick 1 of 3 games to download onto their LeapPad.

A is for…… Attitude

The lovely Charly over at PODcast has started a brilliant new linky, The Alphabet Project. This will take place every Wednesday and we are all invited to link up with our photographs each week. So this week we are thinking of the letter A. I was searching high and low for inspiration, I found avocados, I found apples, I was even considering using the 'a' magnet on the fridge but they all seemed a tad boring and then this moment happened……

Read With Me #20

Hello everyone, welcome to another week of Read With Me. Firstly thank you to all who linked up last week, there were a couple of new linkers, nice to see so many great book recommendations. I've been mentioning each month just how many books I've managed to read but I wasn't sure exactly how many I had got round to reading so far this year. Whilst on Good Reads last week I set myself a reading challenge to read 150 books this year and it showed that so far I have managed 61 books, that's 41% of my target.

As I said earlier some brilliant reviews were linked up last week so I just wanted to mention a couple that I think you should definitely check out.

The lovely Vicky from Single Mother Ahoy reviewed And The Mountains Echoed written by Khaled Hosseini. It sounds like a very emotionally charged book and we've been warned to have the tissues to hand.

The second review that stood out to me was from Australian Picture Books, that's right we had a linker all the way from Australia!! The book that was recommended was Tanglewood written by Margaret Wild. This is a childrens book and what I liked about the review was that it offered activities to do which were related to the story, carrying on the fun!!

The Lovely Book For Wonderful Women Review

I have to admit there are times in my life where I feel a bit meh about myself, that is the only way I can describe it, I get myself into a mood and I honestly could't tell you why. Sometimes I am in need of a pick me up, something to give me my postive attitude back. I was recently asked if I would like to review The Lovely Book For Wonderful Women by Lehla Eldridge. The title itself had me intrigued as to what could be inside.

Project 365 Days 131 - 137

We've reached the middle of May, I seem to say it almost every week but where is the time going?? This week has been filled with sunshine, laughter, milestone moments and a few lovely deliveries and some of those things were actually for me which makes a change!! Layla has finally learnt to drink out of a "big girl" cup and Gracie has mastered writing her name and Freya went in the golden book twice this week for doing so well with her writing at school, I just need Elise to lose one of her wobbly teeth finally and it will be four for four.

Day 131

I do question Elise's taste in clothes sometimes, apparently she was being a model here. Doctor Gracie to the rescue once again, looking after Freya's poorly leg and Layla was caught drawing all over herself, if it isn'y herself, then it is on the books, atleast I can wash it off her!!

What's The Story Morning Glory

So I wrote a post quite a while ago now about how I get organised in the mornings but lets just say things don't always go to plans in the mornings, especially when we need to get out the door for the school run.

Recently Britmums along with Belvita breakfast set bloggers the challenge to tell you all about our
#MorningStories, just how do we make out of the door on time and not still in our pyjamas??

I was sent 3 lovely boxes of Belvita breakfast biscuits to help brighten my morning so I'm going to share with you my top five tips on just how I survive the morning chaos!!

Tip One - Preparation

I've always found organisation is key. I make sure to most things prepared the afternoon/night before. I make the girls lunches and have them ready and waiting in the fridge. I have uniform/clothes picked out. Means I can set my alarm that little bit later, although I don't know why I bother because one child always wakes me up before the alarm goes off, not sure which noise I prefer ;)

Rainbow Pasta Salad Recipe

Ok May may have brought with it April showers but I am still hopeful that the warmer weather is on its way and of course when the sun is shining you don't want to be eating lots of hot meals, I always opt for salads but this can get boring. You may have seen my post last week all about my shopping trip to Morrisons for the Bank Holiday weekend and one of the dishes I rustled up was Rainbow Pasta Salad, take a look at my recipe below.

April's Degustabox, What's Inside?

Way back in February I was lucky enough to have the chance to review a box from Degustabox, I was extremely impressed. If you haven't heard of them before or read my previous post, let me explain a little, Degustabox are company that provide you with a monthly surprise food box, packed with ten to fifteen different products, a lot of which are completely new to the market. I was given the chance to review another box and let me tell you straight away that Degustabox did not disappoint, infact this box was better than the last one.

They have improved the packaging since I received my last box, lots of bubble wrap protecting the products inside, everything turned up in perfect conditon, no broken bottles and no crushed food.

Blogging Mums Carnival - The Recipe Float

I love being part of the blogging community, I've "virtually" met so many genuinely nice people and I have loved learning more about them and collecting various ideas for crafting, cooking etc from posts that others have shared. One such group is The Blogging Mums Club over on Facebook. It is an open group that any blogger can join and share what they are writing on their blog on any given day.

The lovely Debbie who set up the group came up with a brilliant idea of The Blogging Mums Carnival, each week you can join in the carnival fun, find some new blogs to follow whilst reading some amazing posts and commenting as you go.

My float for this weeks carnival post is Recipes.

So I'm going to get this carnival moving with my own personal favourite recipe post has to be my Peanut Butter Mug Cake, a naughty but nice treat.

Read With Me #19

Another week gone by, but that can only mean that another Read With Me linky is open. I've found myself reading a right old mixture of books recently, between books that I've chosen myself to books that I've been very kindly sent to review, sometimes I wish that I could just sit and read all day, trouble is that thing called life just gets in the way sometimes.

Thank you to everyone that linked up last week, it was so nice seeing such a mixture of posts.

The lovely Kiran from Mummy Says  highlighted something very important in her post, the fact that still in this day and age there still aren't a lot of brown skin characters mentioned/shown in childrens books, I agree 100% that now is definitely the time to change this!!!

And Tanya from Muma Leary links up for the first time with not one but two book recommendations, an adult book for us parents to enjoy and a childrens books for our kids to read and have fun with.

Now for the fun part, the link up. If you are new to #ReadWithMe then please do check out what it is all about right here.

The Three by Sarah Lotz Review and Giveaway

Four disasters.
Three Survivors.
A message that will change the world….

When the hardback copy of The Three by Sarah Lotz arrived for me to review, I was more than
the three sarah lotz
intrigued. The black cover with three red streaks containing the survivors slashed down the front, almost haunting, I would compare it to some of the Stephen King books that my mum reads.

The story itself revolves around one day, Black Thursday, the day that four passenger planes crashed at almost the same moment in time, at four different locations around the world.

The cover leads us to believe that there are three survivors when in actual fact there were four, three children who come out of the wreckage with next to no injuries but they are different somehow and the fourth, Pamela May Donald who manages to survive long enough to record a chilling message on her phone :

"They're here… The boy. The boy watch the boy watch the dead people oh Lordy there's so many… They're coming for me now. We're all going soon. All of us. Pastor Len warn them that the boy he's not to……"

This message could potentially change the world.

Project 365 Days 124 - 130

I have to admit this week I have become a little less motivated when it comes to taking photos, it isn't that I don't want to but it seems like recently I am sharing similar photos each day for project 365 with you all, now. This week I have tried to get myself back on the healthy wagon, lots of exercise!! And this is also the week where Daddy Hazelden is off from Tuesday to Friday, this means the laptop is not in my clutches and lots of questions as to why am I taking another photo, he doesn't quite understand my need/want to do it, good job the girls don't mind ;)

Day 124

A day in the sunshine, admiring the fountain, throwing pennies and making wishes and of course every Bank Holiday needs a picnic.

Day 125

Layla was "cleaning" the floor, I've trained her well ;) The other three well I'm not sure what they were up too lol.

Saving Money With Morrisons

Did you notice last week that Morrisons cut many of their prices over thousands of products, this was the start of a new cheaper Morrisons. Here is what Morrisons had to say :

"From today, we’ve cut the prices on over a thousand of your favourite products. Not temporary reductions or supermarket smoke and mirrors, these are new every day low prices on the things you buy every week. So you’ll notice the difference with every shop.

And although we’re cutting prices, we’re not cutting corners. You can check our pricing at www.Morrisons.com/pricecuts.

You’ll still get award-winning meat and fish, still get trained butchers and bakers, still get the best of fresh on Market Street and still get friendly Morrisons service.

Look out for the yellow markers when you shop in store and online at morrisons.com. If it says I’m cheaper you know it’s staying cheaper."

I was lucky enough to be picked to be a #MorrisonsMum thanks to Britmums and Morrisons, along with many other amazing bloggers. We were each sent £80's worth of vouchers so that we could experience the price drops ourselves and see if Morrisons really could save us money on our normal shop.

Now I won't lie I normally do my big shop at Tesco, for two reasons, one, I get to save up clubcard points, I save the money off vouchers to use on my food and drink shop at Christmas time. Two, it is the biggest local supermarket which means I can get everything I need in one store if I want to.

Regenovex Review

I was recently asked if I would like to trial a product called Regenovex. It is a product that is meant to relieve joint discomfort. I personally don't have any joint problems but my mum sadly suffers from quite severe arthritis so I gave the product to my mum to try to see if it would relieve any of her symptoms.

The idea behind Regenovex is that it lubricates the joints, in turn reducing wear and tear and helping to reduce any inflammation around the joints, all of this works together to relieve the discomfort in the joints.

Regenovex contains natural active ingredients. One of the ingredients is Bionovex oil, a special green lipped mussel sourced exclusively from the fresh coast of New Zealand, this has an anti-imflammatory effect. Another ingredient is a high grade hyaluronic acid, I bet your wondering what that is, let me explain, it is a long chain natural polymer molecule which is essential for maintaining the cartilage in the joint and is a key component of synovial fluid which protects and lubricates the joints.

Regenovex can be bought as a gel which can be put directly on to the site of pain or it can be bought as capsules which should be taken daily.

Creating a Masterpiece With Galt Toys

Last week the lovely people at Galt Toys were looking for parent bloggers with children between the ages of 5 and 12 to take part in a fun art challenge.

The idea for the art challenge came from something that they did earlier in the year. Galt Toys asked the famous contemporary artist Ed Chapman to recreate Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe portrait using arts and crafts materials from Galt themselves and since then Galt Toys. Ed managed to show just would could be achieved using the right art supplies and of course a little bit of imagination. This ledd to Galt Toys launching their very own Mini Masterpiece series.

Using template from six famous works of art, Galt Toys decided that they want your children to print them out so that they can decorate them and create their very own mini masterpieces.

Last month Galt toys shared with you a fantastic Monet piece of art, this could then be downloaded and printed out, giving children the chance to redesign this famous artwork and make it their own and by sharing it with Galt Toys, they were in the running to win a fantastic arts and crafts bundle worth £50.

This month is the turn of Van Gogh's Starry Night. My children and I were lucky enough to be sent a Sponge Painting Box to help us with our creations.

Read With Me #18

Hello you lovely lot. Who can believe we are at the beginning of May, now I know a lot of you have probably been out trying to soak up those sun rays instead of being stuck indoors reading, although if you have a kindle you could always by reading whilst at the beach ;) Anyway a big thank you as always to all of you who linked up to Read With Me last week.

A couple of my favourites from last week :

The lovely Beth from PlasticRosaries reviewed Amity and Sorrow by Peggy Riley. Her review has definitely got me interested and this book went straight onto my TBR list, go and check it out just what she had to say about it.

I also loved Laura from My Life As a Mummy review of The Lovely Book For Wonderful Women by Lehla Eldridge, this book is full of motivational and inspirational quotes to not only make you smile but give you a positive energy. Why not take a look at what Laura's favourite quotes were.

Now on to this weeks link up. If you are new to #ReadWithMe, take a look at what is all about right here.

The School of Good And Evil Book Review and Giveaway

Every four years, two children are kidnapped from the village of Gavaldom. Legend has it these lost children are sent to the School of Good and Evil. the fabled institution where they become fairytale heroes or villains…..

I was lucky enough to be sent the first book, The School of Good And Evil and the second upcoming release, The School of Good And Evil, A World Without Princes by Soman Chainani for my eldest daughter Elise to read and review.
the school of good and evil 1 & 2

Here is Elise's (8) review of the first instalment :

The first story takes two girls named Sophie and Agatha to the school for good and evil. The good girl, Sophie was put in the evil school and the bad girl, Agatha was put in the good school. The story shows them finding out just how they get out, and it turns out that they have to solve a riddle.

I loved reading all the adventures they have, especially the humorous ones. As an example, when a pumpkin explodes over Tedros and Sophie, very funny!!

Seriously when will the year stop speeding by, May already!!! So this week has been a somewhat boring week, Daddy Hazelden has been away at work since Tuesday, the weather has been unseasonably rubbish and the kids have definitely been getting cabin fever after school. I've tried my best to capture the best of our week for project 365 though.

Introducing the LeapBand

It also doubles up as a digital and analogue watch.

Geocaching, What's It All About?

Geocaching is something that I have heard of, I've seen many of my friends mentioning it on their social media profiles but it wasn't until last weekend that my husband looked up exactly what it was :

Geocaching is an outdoor activity in which the participants use a GPS receiver or mobile device to hide and seek containers which are called geocaches or caches, these can be found all around the world.

In simple terms it is like a real life treasure hunt.

Where to start?

First of all sign yourself up to geocaching.com. Here you can log your finds, let people know if maintenance is needed on a certain geocache and chat with other community members.

Which app should I use?
c:geo

There are quite few apps available to help you on your geocaching quest. We used c:geo for android purely because it was free but there are other apps available such as CacheSense and the official app Geocaching.

What are we looking for??

A typical geocache is a waterproof container which typically contains a logbook. Not all geocaches are the same, some are small, some are large. Some geocachers like to leave other things in the containers for trading such as small toys or trinkets.

Slow Cooker Breakfast Casserole Recipe

Well everyone says that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so surely it is a good idea to have breakfast at dinner time?? It is for this reason that I have come up with this recipe for a breakfast casserole, cooked in my trusty slow cooker.
