Easter Biscuit Baking

Ok ok, I know Easter has been and gone but the girls got some lovely Easter cookie cutters over the holidays but we were late in using them however I couldn't not show you their final efforts as I myself (yes I may be biased) was impressed with the results.

Black Ice Book Review

black ice becca fitzpatrick
I was recently sent Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick to read and review. I have to admit I'd not heard of this author so I had a google before delving in and it looks like I've been missing out on some good reads. The blurb of this novel had me intrigued :

Britt Pheiffer has trained to backpack the Teton Range, but isn't prepared when a violent storm leaves her and best friend Korbie stranded. Seeking shelter in a secluded cabin, they find two handsome rescuers. Or so they think.

In exchange for her life, Britt must set out into the cold and snow to lead the men to safety. But during the harrowing journey in the wilderness, one of the men, Mason, starts to show an interest in Britt that seems more romantic than sinister. Can she really trust him? Her life depends on the answer…

When a prologue starts with what appears to be a young girl being murdered, this instantly turns a book into a page turner for me as straight away we get the sense of mystery, very compelling as you are left wanting to know what happened to the girl and who done it.

LeapFrog Loves Disney Princesses and We Do Too

disney's tangled leapreader book
LeapFrog chose their Cindrella LeapReader book as their book of the month for April, this got my girls nodding in agreement, they love all things to do with Disney Princess.

So to keep the Disney Princess love going, we were kindly sent the Disney's Tangled LeapReader book and Sofia the First LeapTV game to have fun with, both favourite princesses in our house so there was much excitement when these arrived in the post.

We were also sent a LeapReader which I will be reviewing soon so look out for that but for now lets concentrate on the book.

Aimed at children aged 4-8 this isn't just your typical Rapunzel story.

The LeapReader allows you to not only listen to the story narrated through the LeapReader itself but there also pages where you can choose your own words for the story, muddle it up a little if you will.

Kelloggs Frozen Cereal

There are two things my children are definitely into right now, one of them is Frozen (will the hype ever die down?) and food. So when we were recently asked by Kelloggs to choose our favourite Frozen character, the kids got rather excited about what could possibly be coming our way.

A surprise package revealed some lovely Frozen goodies including an Elsa wig and a fabulous tiara which I may have placed on my head as well as a box of Frozen themed cereal.

Datevitation Review

My husband is a really hard person to shop for when it comes to gifts because he is one these people that buys everything for himself so when it comes to birthdays, Christmas etc there is a distinct lack of ideas on what to purchase for him.

This is where Datevitation have kindly stepped in this. This is a US based comapny where you can create one of a kind gift books for someone you love full of fun activities to do together.

Recently they were only delivering within the US and Canada but after many requests they are now trialling sending them to the UK and I was lucky enough to be given the chance to order one for myself.

The process of ordering is simple. Creating a book can take as little as 5 minutes. You can make book for all sorts of occassions and for any recipient including kids and those special people in your life.

I ordered my book on the 18th of March and it arrived on my doorstep on the 26th of March, so it took 10 days in total to arrive which I think is more than reasonable considering how far it had to travel.

The book itself is lovely. The envelope lets you know that there is a surprise within….

Weighing In and Changing My Mind

Last week I mentioned that I was going to be following the 3 week diet plan. Today is supposed to be day 8, I've managed a full week on this plan and as proud as I am of myself for sticking with it, I have to admit it's not been easy going.

For the past 7 days I've had no carbs, no fruit, no junk food, no alcohol and no caffeine. My will power has been really tested. Just vegetables and meat/fish and even then only certain ones of these were allowed and they could only be cooked in a certain way.

My meal times have been shifted around, a lot of fasting which has left me feeling hungry more often than not and there was quite a few moments where I considered stopping, as really why I am putting myself through this, to lose a couple of lbs?

Read With Me #17

Hey lovely readers. Welcome to this weeks Read With Me. So half term and the sunny weather combined meant that I didn't get round to reading an awful lots last week.

read with me
The one book that I did read and absolutely fell in love with was Here's To Falling by Christine Zolendz.

This is an emotional story which mixes love with other difficult subjects including drugs and rape.

I will admit to shedding a few tears reading part of it and I'd highly recommed others reading it too.

My favourite post which was linked up last week comes from Yet Another Blogging Mummy.

The review of children's book, The Bigfoot Escape was great and especially loved the added drawing from her son.

Now onto the link up…

Project 365 2015 Week 17

Back to school this week and the sun seemed to disappear as the holidays ended so there are a lot more indoor pictures for this weeks project 365.

It's been a strange week. The hubby and I decided to upgrade our phones, I now have my trusty iPhone back but I think in true karma for us spending a bit of money on ourselves for a change, the boiler decided to break, bbbooooo!!! Luckily we have cover with Homeserve and I can't fault them, they sent an engineer out an hour after us ringing and had the part ordered the same day then fixed the day after, phew.

My poor husband had a hospital appointment cancelled, this cost him a night off work, hate that everything comes down to money but it was so annoying and now we have to wait for another appointment to be booked!!

The girls settled back into school nicely, although I think I may have jinxed the weather by sending them in with their Summer dresses on.

Dear Daughters

Having four daughters, I can't help but worry sometimes about how things will be for them as they grow up. I think about situations/phases that I went through when I was growing up and it got me wondering just what I'd say to my younger self, how different things could have been if the future me could have had a few words in my ear.

The more my brain mulled these thoughts over, I realised that really it would be the same advice that I'd like to offer my own children now. So I'm writing an open letter to my girls in the hopes that one day they will read it and maybe appreciate the words that I've wrote.

Simple Frozen Yoghurt Recipe

I used to skip eating breakfast. Many people told me that it was the most important meal of the day but I chose to ignore this advice until this year.

Since starting on my healthy eating journey back in January, I have made a concious effort to eat breakfast every morning.

Sometimes I find myself in a rush with little time to prepare and eat anything after sorting out the kids so I've found a great way to counteract this is by preparing breakfast the night before. Overnight oats quickly became my go to breakfast but having this day in, day out started to become a little bit tiresome so I began to search for other alternatives.

Frozen yoghurt seemed like a good option. Only three ingredients needed, takes very little time to make and because you pop in the freezer, it lasts a long time. The recipe I'm sharing lasts me 5-7 days depending on how hungry I am and what fruit etc I decide to serve with it.

March's Degustabox, What's Inside?

Another month, another surprise food box delivery from Degustabox. I get rather excited about the prospect of these turning up as Deugastabox has provided me so many ideas for new foods as well some favourites of mine making their way in there too.

There seemed to be a naughty but nice theme going on this March's box, you can read on to see exactly what I received…

Dork Diaries TV Star Book Review

Dork Diaries, TV star is the seventh book in the Dork Diaries series by Rachel Renee Russell. My eldest daughter has been collecting these books for a while so was over the moon to be given the chance to review the latest book to the collection.

Lights… camera… Nikki! MacKenzie?? Uh-oh!!

OMG Nikki Maxwell is getting her own TV show! Nikki and her friends were spotted at their school talent show, and now a reality TV crew is following her has she heads for pop stardom.

Squeee!

But having cameras wherever she goes isn't always fun, especially when it's making things awkward with Brandon and MacKenzie keeps trying to steal the limelight…

Is TV star one sterp too far for Queen of the Dorks?

Weekly Weigh In 21.04.2015

So last week I said I was going to have a week without alcohol, turns out I have no will power when it comes to wine, although I did make a bottle of wine last over 4 days so it wasn't all bad.

Jumping on the scales this week I was feeling more positive, exercise has been going well and for the most part I've been eating really well, I may have snuck in an ice cream or two, well it was extremely warm weather.

So this week I stayed the same with my weight and my measurements which I guess I should be happy with.

Read With Me #16

Welcome to this weeks Read With Me. How are you all, hope you've all had time to read a good book or two.

read with me
I had more of a chance to sit down with a good book this past week.

My eldest daughter and I have been sitting in the garden reading whilst her younger sisters play. Something wonderful about reading outdoors.

One of my favourite reads from last week was Frenched by Melanie Harlow, I also read the follow on novella Yanked.

A sexy and enticing week long fling in Paris of all places turns into a love that neiter Mia or Lucas were looking/hoping for.

It is a nice easy read that certainly put a smile on my face and the second book had the same affect. At the time of writing this, Frenched was free on kindle so see if you can grab yourself a bargain.

Project 365 2015 Week 16

So the second week of the Easter holidays has made for a great set of pictures for this weeks project 365, even if I do say so myself. The sun makes everything better.

Day 102

Another day, another party, Gracie all dressed up and ready to mingle, can't believe how grown up she's looking now!!

Sea, Sun and Wind

When the sun comes out to play the first place that always springs to mind to go to is the beach. It is days like this that I'm reminded how lucky we are to live by sea.

I was excited at the idea of fresh air and sunshine whilst the girls were happy about the prospect of ice cream, either way it was going to be a good day for all.

This was actually the first time that I'd taken all four kids out by myself without putting Layla in a pushchair. So with sunglasses and Goldbug reins at the ready we set out to walk down the seafront.

It didn't take as long as I thought to make it down there, although I did end up carrying little legs for part of the distance.

However once down there the wind took over from where the sun began, it was shall we say a tad blustery, this didn't deter us though.

You can see from the smiles below.

Everything Can Be Made #BetterWithCake

I love cake, I mean it must be true because my Twitter profile says so. It is one thing that I just can't give up and maybe the reason for that is because I know that everything can be made #betterwithcake, something that Mr Kipling most certainly knows too.

Banana and Blueberry Oat Bake

The recipe I'm sharing with you this week is not only perfect for breakfast but you can eat it at snack time or even for dessert. This oat bake can be eaten hot or cold, like a slice of bread of broken up and served with all sorts of yummy toppings.

Best of all the oat bake remains completely healthy, full of fibre, nutritious and extremely filling so no need to snack inbetween meals…

Mathematics Flash Cards Review

It's funny, I always excelled at maths over English yet my kids seem to be the total opposite, maybe that's where they take after their dad? However one this made one of my latest review offerings extremely apprpriate. I was offered the chance to review a set of mathematics flash cards.

This set is priced at £5.99 for 57 cards. These cards aim to make learning about numbers fun rather than a daunting task.

Slimming Solutions TeaTox Review

TeaToxing seems to be one of the latest crazes to not only help with weight loss but to promote general healthy well being within a balance diet.

I was recently sent a 2 week TeaTox from Slimming Solutions to try and I'm back to report on the results.

The 2 weeks TeaTox consists of 21 tea bags. 14 tea bags for day time drinking and 7 tea bags for night time drinking.

On the website it says that you receive a free clean eating plan however I didn't get this part so I cannot comment on how effective it is.

Weekly Weigh In 14.04.2015

Ok so I'm going to put my hands up and say I struggled last week. The husband was off and my will power failed. I indulged in all sorts of treats, which included far too much alcohol. With all this in mind I was fully expecting the scales to throw out some evil numbers. However I actually managed to lost 2lb!!!

My measurements on my waist stayed the same but I've lost and inch on my hips which I'm really happy with.

Great results for a change.

So exercising this week I'm continuing with the Bikini Guide workout that I started, yesterday saw the start of week 3 and even though it is tough it is certainly worth the effort. I'm also making more of an effort on the running front, each time I go out my pace is getting faster and the distance I'm running is increasing.

Read With Me #15

Hello there fellow book lovers, welcome to this weeks Read With Me. As much as I'm loving the Easter holidays and the sunshine that has come with it, I have to admit it's messed with my reading time.

read with me
I've only managed to read 2 books since the holidays have started.

I'm starting to get withdrawals…

I did fit in reading the book that I was kindly sent by my books swap partner Laura Summers. She sent me Bitten by Kelley Armstrong. I'll be writing a longer post about it later but I will say that I now need to read more of these books!!

Thanks to all those that managed to link up last week.

My favourite post was from Single Mother Ahoy. She recently reviewed Spot the Lamb on the Farm which reminded me of Where's Wally?

Project 365 2015 Week 15

One week of the Easter holidays is gone already and what a brilliant week it has been. Lots of sun, smiles and family time. We've managed to get some decorating done, the husband finally go around to putting a washing line in the garden and there's been minimal moaning and arguing from the children. This all adds up to some good photos for this weeks project 365….

Happy Easter.

A Long Walk to Welcome Spring

With the Easter holidays upon us most parents, if you are like me will be worrying about just how to entertain the kids and how to do it without breaking the bank. The people at Ffrees Family Finance asked some bloggers including myself to share with you all the best family days out for under £20.

Some of my favourite activities actually have a very low cost or even better they are absolutely free.

Playing at the park.

Trip to the library.

Geocaching.

Movie day.

Crafting.

The best days out are actually the spontaneous ones. We recently went out for a walk up in the fields behind where my husband used to live. It was wonderful to be out as a family together in the fresh air, blowing away those cob webs that have formed over the Winter months.

One of my favourite ingredients of late is quinoa. I've been using it in breakfast, lunch and dinners. It is packed full of protein and manages to add a great texture to every dish.

AirMotion Brush Review

I struggle with my own hair some days and with 4 daughters who all need their hair brushing and styling, I have even less time to attend to my own 'beauty' needs.

Each of my girls all have lovely straight hair but their textures and thickness differ, I tend to use different brushes and combs on each of them as what works for one doesn't work for another.

AirMotion brush
This is where the new brush on the block, the AirMotion, steps in. This new multi- use brush aims to redefine brushing.

The brush is designed by a professionally trained hairstylist so I had high hopes to begin with as you'd think that a person who knows about hair should be able to create a brush that gives you luscious locks right?

When thinking of a brush, I bet you can't think of many stand out features but with the AirMotion brush you would be wrong, here are just a few of them -

Air shock absorption : This is patent pending but the idea is to reduce the strain on your hair, helping to reduce breakage.

Tri-Bristle configuration : Most brushes have their bristles all the same length. The AirMotion brush compromises of bristles made of 3 different lengths and diameters, meaning that no hair is left untangled.

I Love You Near and Far Book Review

One of the books the girls and I recently got sent for review was I Love You Near and Far which is written by Majorie Blain Parker and illustrated by Jed Henry.

I know that we live far away, far apart.

But I can still love you with all of my heart.

So, wherever you live - if it's near or it's far…

I will love you wherever, wherever you are.

Celebrating The Release Of Night At The Museum 3

The latest installment of The Night At The Museum films, Secret of The Tombs is due to be released onto DVD and Blueray on the 13th of April. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are back and leading an all star cast into another great adventure.

Tuesday 7 April 2015

Weekly Weigh In 07.04.2015

I can't believe we are into the month of April. I'm admitting straight away that my will power failed last week and I couldn't resist the Easter eggs but I am not going to feel too bad because the chocolate tasted good!!!

So the scales this week said that I had put on a 1lb, now the chocolate eating combined with the two bottles of wine I consumed, I was expecting a lot more put on so I'm not overly disappointed.

And I measured myself too with my waist and my hips measuring the same as last week. All in all not too bad and the photo below shows just why I'm not beating myself up about a gain.

I took a photo last week and shared it on my facebook page so I thought I would share here too. I know I'm not wearing the same clothes but I can see a noticable difference both in my hips (the love handles aren't as wide) and my stomach, definition is beginning to appear.

Read With Me #14

Hey there lovely readers, welcome to this weeks Read With Me. We are now a quarter of the way through the year and I've already managed to read over half of the goodreads target that I set myself.

read with me
That's over 75 books, does that mean that I'm a tad obssessed??

I read a couple of books last week that stood out for different reasons.

Pocketful of Sand by M Leighton is a romance with a difference, I don't want to spoil anything but the twist is that there are two alternate endings to read, you can read one or both, the first makes it a stand alone book and the second leads on to the possibility of a sequel.

The second book I'm recommending is Where One Goes by BN Toler. The story has a paranormal element to it but it's written so beautifully that it managed to bring tears to my eyes!!

My favourite post that got linked up last week was from In The Playroom, offering a great activity to do with your little ones as well as a brilliant book recommendation.

Onto this weeks link up. New to Read With Me? Take a look at what it is all about here. Regular? Get linking, commenting and hopefully displaying my badge.

Project 365 2015 Week 14

The Easter holidays are finally here, hooray!!! I'm more than a little excited to have my girls off of school for a couple of weeks. I am now keeping my fingers crossed that the weather is good for atleast a little bit of their time off.

So what have we been up to this week? I went and saw the girls perform at their Easter tea, queue lots of cute kids dressed up like frogs!! We made some Easter cards and we've already had a trip to the library to stock up on books to read incase the weather turns bad.

We are now inpatiently waiting to hunt for lots of chocolate, while we wait lets look at this weeks project 365 photos :

Spicy Chickpea Burgers

I'm not a vegetarian or a vegan but I have been introducing a lot more vegetable based meals into my diet. One of my favourite foods of recent weeks has got to be the spicy chickpea burgers that I have been making.

Packed full of flavour but with none of the fat from meat, it is both tasty and nutritious. And even better they are simple to make, that easy that the kids have been helping me.

A Few Of My #AldiFavourite Things

It's no secret now that I love a good shop at Aldi. Not only can I save myself money but they stock items that I can't find at other supermarkets. So today I thought I'd share with you a few of my favourite Aldi things.

First on the list are these chia and oat crisp breads. These are not only delicious but healthy too, fab as a snack or for lunch. I love to put cottage cheese and cucumber on top of them.

House of Secrets - Battle Of The Beasts Review

The book The House of Secrets debuted in 2013, selling thousands worlwide, getting glowing reviews even from J K Rowling, a brilliant adventure book for children. With all this hype, everyone was waiting inpatiently for book number two, Battle of The Beasts.

Can the Walker kids save the world? Again? Brendan, Cordelia and Nell better be prepared to fight for their lives…

Just when the Walkers thought they'd defeated the evil Wind Witch forever, their home is blasted into a crazy world of battles, beasts and cyborgs. From the searing heat and clashing swords of the Colosseum, to the snow capped Tibetan mountains and some seriusly freaky monks - the stakes have never been higher.

Starting The Day With a Good Cuppa

Everyone knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and what's the best thing to accompany breakfast? A good cuppa of course.

I love to start my day with a green tea, so when Twinings offered me the chance to review some of their latest range, I had to admit I got a little excited as I am all for trying new flavours.

Twinings actually conducted some research recently to help with their new advert which you can watch here. Their findings showed that showed that little changes can make a huge difference in our daily lives because our every day routine can become boring.

To highlight this idea, Twinings transformed their Strand store, decorating it in thousands of teabags, see the picture below :

Dry Like Me Giveaway

Potty training, it can be one of the hardest times for both parents and their little ones. A learning curve that can take time. Last year I was lucky enough to review the Dry Like Me range, these are handy pads that can take away some of the stress that comes with toddlers learning to use the potty/ toilet.

They are easily stuck into knickers/pants adding an absorbent layer to your child's underwear, allowing them to go without a nappy and giving them the chance to build up their confidence without going through copious amounts of clothes, a big relief to us mums and dads.

I really liked them, soft and comfortable and a real help when going out and about.

Dry Like Me are now celebrating the release of their first ever advert and they want to celebrate with all of you. So to get the party started, they have allowed me to give away a 'Smarter Way to Potty Train' pack to one lucky reader.

The pack will contain a variet of Dry Like Me pads, a reward chart with stickers and their award winning book, How to Potty Train.
