Creative Lettering for Kids - Book Review

As a kid I always enjoyed art and writing, I was definitely a creative child and my girls are no different, you'll always find them with piles of papers, pencils and pens around them, they particularly like writing notes to their uncle. The Creative Lettering for Kids Book appealed to me because I thought it would build on that creativity that they already have.

Let your inner artist shine and get creative with lettering!  group of talented artists encourage you to have fun with colors, shapes, and doodling. You'll experiment with a variety of tools and materials while learning a ton of cool techniques. You'll be inspired by the artists' favorite fonts, "try it" idea, and step by step lettering lessons, from making an alphabet with gel pens to creating gift tags using carved letter stamps.

The blurb pretty much sums up the book in a few sentences. At the beginning of the book we are introduced to the basics, the tools and materials needed for the ideas in the book, the techniques that you'll come across and the explanation that each project will differ in difficulty.

You can see a couple of our attempts on lettering below:

Something that actually stuck out for me were the skills needed for each project. Having 4 daughters of differing ages it was nice to see that there were different skill levels throughout the book, from projects that the girls could do by themselves or at least attempt and other things to do that would require an adult helping hand which gave me an excuse to have something to do with them.

Each chapter was broke down by a variety of artists. Each one sharing some of their own tips and tricks for varying letters. These came in different shapes and sizes and showed that they could also be used for a lot of different things, from simple letters to posters, labels and even gifts. The artists even share what their favourite lettering instruments are.

I actually thought that the book would be great to use in schools to give inspiration for art projects within the classroom. Each project is broke down, telling you the materials needed, a step by step method as well as tips to help and to extend the project further.
