Romeo's Big Book of Clever Ideas Book Review

Romeo's Big Book of Clever Ideas is the first story picture book by Alain Gree from button books. I've had the privilege of reviewing some of his previous books and I have always been taken in by his illustrations, they have a way of capturing the imagination of young ones and when I heard about this new character, Romeo, I had a strong feeling that he too would win me over.

In this book, Romeo has decided that he would very much like to go on a camping trip but the problem is that he seems to think that he needs a lot of luggage so by the time he has finished packing his belongings, well the suitcase seems to be stuck to the floor because it's just too heavy to lift up off of the floor.

Poor old Romeo is faced with a dilemma because he can't bare to leave anything behind, because everything he's put in there could come in handy at some point whilst he's camping so the question is just how is he going to move it? What he cleverly decides is that books are full of good ideas so surely there must be one that has the answer to his problem. So off to the library he goes.

Now I love this notion straight away because books really are a great source of knowledge, people seem to have become lost in the world of Google (yes I know it generally does have the answer) but there is something quite satisfying about opening up a book and researching because actually you end up with more answers than you initially went looking for.

At the library Romeo rather luckily I think, finds a book filled with clever ideas and so he starts to test them out. Some of these ideas seem shall we say risky, some to us just entertaining to watch them play out and some just seem unlikely to work. Either way Romeo is determined to find a solution and it's good to see him not giving up.

The story along with Alain Gree's distinct drawings provide a great source of entertainment for children, there are a lot of moments that will definitely have kids laughing as they read. But this book also does something else, it  gives the kids something to think about. What would they do if faced with the same problem as Romeo, do they think what he's trying will actually work?

I won't spoil it by telling you just what idea Romeo got to work in the end but I will say that it is indeed very clever! You can also find this loveable character in another book, this time exploring in The City. These books are bound to delight your children as they discover and learn whilst Romeo continues with his funny antics.
