Homemade Fruity Ice Lollies

Summer is finally here, hooray!!! So of course the kids like nothing better than eating lots of ice cream to cool them down. I've already shared a couple of recipes which are healthier alternatives such as my frozen yogurt but when I spotted the below ice lolly moulds in Tiger a couple of weeks ago I felt the need to come up with some healthier calypo like recipes.

tiger ice lolly moulds

Nutty banana ice lollies

4 x bananas
2 tbsp peanut butter (or other nut butter of your choosing)
1 tbsp maple syrup (or honey)

Mix all of these ingredients up in a blender, I used my trusty Nutribullet and the pour the mixture into the ice lolly moulds, making sure to leave a gap at the top for expansion. This will make around 4 ice lollies. Then pop into the freezer for atleast 4 hours.

When ready these lollies will have more of an ice cream texture, they are fab for pre or post workouts too.

Refreshingly minty watermelon ice lollies

1/2 of a watermelon
2 sprigs of mint

Simply blend them all up, I kept the seeds in there too. Again pour into the moulds and pop in the freezer for a few hours. This mixture is a lot more watery so will make more ice lollies than the previous recipe, I would say you'll get around 6 ice lollies.

Now because of its watery consistency these come out more like the calypos we know and love, a refreshing snack packed full of goodness.

Of course you can put pretty much any ingredients you like into your ice lollies, what flavour would you go for??

  1. Those ice moulds are brilliant! :D I would make a lemony ice one, and I think if I was going for a traditional ice-cream one it would be chocolate, coffee and peanut butter! :D Watermelon and mint sounds lovely and refreshing, would be perfect if we had some decent warm weather! ;)

  3. Wow, I've never seen lolly moulds like those before. I've made the nut butter lolly before, using cashew nut. It was thoroughly rejected by my toddler! I couldn't believe it; he is the biggest lolly fan! He loves watermelon though, and it sounds like a great idea to add fresh mint. I'll have to give it a go!
