The Wives by Tarryn Fisher Blog Tour

Tarryn Fisher is one of my favourite auhors.

The first novel of hers that I read was F*ck Love and I was instantly hooked by her writing style, she also teamed up with another fabulous author, Colleen Hoover to created a fantastic three part story called Never Never.

Needless to say I was thrilled to have the chance to join the blog tour for her latest release The Wives...

He comes over on Thursday of every week. That's my day, I'm Thursday. It's a hopeful day, not the beginning or the end, an appetizer to the weekend.

Sometimes I wonder about the other days and if they wonder about me. That's how women are, right? Always wondering about each other - curiosity and spite curdling together in little emotional puddles.

Little good that does; if you wonder too hard, you'll get everything wrong.

When I read the blurb for this book I'll admit I was expecting quite a different story to the one I got.

I was however not disappointed, if anything it was better than anything I could have anticipated before I started reading.

Polygamy is a subject that has become more talked about in recent years.

With programmes on things like Netflix, even documentaries from people like Lois Theroux. I find it interesting to see the dynamics of these situations. The hows and whys into it all. I personally can't imagine ever wanting to share my husband with another person.

Thursday (the main protagonist) wasn't so open to the idea in the beginning but not wanting to lose Seth sort of forced her hand into following down the path of a more open relationship.

The trouble is the trust in this relationship.

Not knowing what your partner is doing on the days of the week that their attention isn't on you and when Thursday's curiosity gets the better of her she gets more than she bargained for.

Thursday’s husband, Seth, has two other wives. She’s never met them, and she doesn’t know anything about them. She agreed to this unusual arrangement because she’s so crazy about him.

But one day, she finds something. Something that tells a very different—and horrifying—story about the man she married.

As the story progresses things become a little complicated shall we say.

I found this a hard novel to review, not because I didn't love it but because I don't want to give anything away. The thrill of reading it would be somewhat dampened by any spoilers and it's the element of surprise that really gives this book its edge.

Just remember curiosity killed the cat!

The characters in this book, from Seth (the unsatisfied husband to all of the wives all have a certain darkness about them - a trait in Tarryn's novels that I love, not everything is hearts and flowers. 

Having said that, I never fully liked Thursday. Her attitude towards the situation, she came across as a bit unhinged, dillusional. I struggled to feel any sympathy for her plight.

With every twist and turn in the plot I felt a strong need to keep reading, there was no way I was putting this book down before I had finished it. I was both disturbed and excited the deeper I got into the story.

A little trigger warning before you read this book, it does cover the subject of mental health, again I can't say how but just know that it's included.

Over all, I cannot recommend this book enough.

Superb storyline mixed with a rollercoaster of emotions, there will be times where you might think that you're the crazy one.

The Wives is a book not to be missed.
