Queen of King Street by Tom McLaughlin Book Review

Best-selling author Tom McLaughlin is back with a laugh-out-loud debut with Barrington Stoke - Queen of King Street.

When the Queen’s brother, Unlucky Bertie, gambles away the entire family fortune, it’s goodbye to Buckingham Palace and hello to a little house on King Street for the royals. How will they ever survive? Follow their hilarious mishaps as the Queen forges a new career in reality TV, her sister-in-law becomes a social-media star and son Harry tries to survive the local comp. Who knew that life in the ordinary world could be so hard?

I love Barrington Stoke books, they are all massively entertaining whilst being super readable for anyone that wants to give a story a go.

This book is no different.

In a world where David Walliams books are popular with every child, this story shines through.

This tale follows the Queen’s brother Bertie, who unfortunately has never been a very lucky person. Then comes the day that he gambles away the whole of the Royal Family’s fortune, including the Queen’s title (oops). No longer considered royalty, t

What does this mean for the Royal family?

The Royal Family's lives get turned upside down in this hilarious Barrington Stoke debut.

Well, a change in housing for one.

The Queen and her family have to move to a little house on King Street - how's that for ironic.

It's time for them to get jobs and lead ordinary lives, turns out that's not to easy to do.

I read this story with my 8 year old, who happened to find it very funny. We chose to read it at bed time, reading alternating pages and I'll be honest, she laughed so much I didn't think she would actually go to sleep after as she was so excited by it all.

This book has a dyslexia-friendly layout, typeface and paperstock so that even more readers can enjoy it. It has been edited to a reading age of 8.

Short chapters packed full of silliness alongside illustrations that really bring the characters to life make this book perfect for all ages. I mean I'm no 8 year old and I thoroughly enjoyed it myself.

If you haven't read any of Tom McLaughlin's books before The Queen of King Street is certainly a good place to start.
