Screams From the Void by Anne Tibbets Blog Tour

Sci-fi is a genre of book that I dip in and out of. It's not my favourite but I can definitely get lost in certain stories given the right story line.

Screams From the Void from author Anne Tibbet definitely ticked the boxes for me. Reading the blurb I felt like this wasn't going to be your typical Sci-fi tale and I was definitely right with my predictions.

For two years in deep space, the freighter Demeter and a small crew have collected botanical life from other planets. It's a lesson in patience and hell. Mechanics Ensign Reina is ready to jump ship, if only because her abusive ex is also aboard, as well as her overbearing boss. It's only after a foreign biological creature sneaks aboard and wreaks havoc on the ship and crew that Reina must find her grit - and maybe create a gadget or two - to survive...that is, if the crew members don't lose their sanity and turn on each other in the process.

This is what I'd describe as scary in space.

The tale starts in the present, on the spaceship Demeter; a science biology research ship with small crew who are nearing the end of a two year long mission. Action-packed from the beginning when the first members of the crew on this exploratory vessel, are seen to be in danger. By the end of the first scene think blood, guts and more blood.

It's like a scene from a horror movie.

The question is, what the hell is on that ship with them and just what does it want?

Told between the past and the present, we get jumping perspectives from various members of the crew, who's over all mission appears to be collecting life samples in different planets - doesn't sound too dangerous and I don't think they could have been prepared for the life threatening circumstances that they end up facing.

Main characters are Raina and Movern, their relationship seems to be vital to the story and just where it leads. Each flashback to previous events works backwards, giving us much needed backstory. The details adding to the tension of the present day goings on.

This is a story that is scary, suspenseful and scream worthy.

The main bulk of the story set over one day, it is fast paced (seriously I finished the book in less than 3 hours). Anne has no problem of disposing with characters. I don't think it's spoiling anything by saying that there is a lot of death in this book and the way they die isn't pretty and trust me you can definitely picture it in your mind as you read.

Plenty of action and gore, I can see this story looking good on the big screen.

My only complaint - I still don't know what the rash was all about - when you read the book you'll be left wanting an explanation too!

Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea, Screams From the Void is Sci-Fi mixed with horror which for me was a fantastic combo. This chaotic story is one all about survival, and just how far you'd push yourself to stay alive.
