Ruby and Ginger The Original Nappy Purse Review

Ruby and Ginger is a company run by Liz Rhodes and Brenda Farnhill. They originally set up the company in 2009 after becoming first time mums and it was named after their first children.

This lovely twosome appeared on Dragons Den in early 2012 and have since gone from strength to strength. Their products are available in 100 retail outlets and online across the UK and Europe.

I was sent their Original Nappy Purse & change mat to test. There are three colours you can choose from, Berries, Funky Flower and Wallpaper. I was asked which one I would like and I chose Berries.

True to their word, this a stylish yet innovative product which fits nicely into the modern parents lifestyle. Measuring at a small 27cm x 19cm x 3.5cm, it comes complete with a change mat and a free refillable wipes case.

Made out of 100% cotton, the material is both water and dirt resistant, as well as washable at 30 degrees, making it both appealing to the eye and practical. The change mat also made of the same material is backed in a soft towelling, perfect for your little ones skin.

Being a user of both cloth nappies and disposable nappies, I had the chance to see how practical the nappy purse was for both.

As you can see from the top picture, when using cloth nappies, I was able to fit in one birth to potty nappy, two washable wipes, a spray bottle of water and the changing mat, so probably only suitable to use for quick trips out rather than a full day if you wanted to take the purse ot by itself. However if you are placing the purse in a changing bag you can always pop another couple of nappies in the changing bag.

The bottom picture shows that when using disposable nappies I managed to fit in 3 nappies, the refillable wipes case and the changing mat, a lot more than with the cloth nappies. What I love is that unlike a changing bag, this nappy purse doesn't become heavy.

The nappy purse has a handle on one side so that you can take it out by itself, there is even a pocket inside to put your keys of phone. It can be placed under a pushchair, or because of the handle if, you can have it on the handle of your pushchair, it can go in a changing bag as shown here in my Miracle Box changing bag review or even in your handbag, as shown by the picture below.

And if that wasn't enough, you can even use it as a clutch bag for going out if you wanted to, so even when you no longer need to use nappies, it won't be left to get dusty in a cupboard somewhere!!!!

Priced at £20.00, I think it is great value for money. Although not as ideal for a cloth nappy user, I would still recommend it to all mums because it can not only be used for baby things, it is a treat for mummy too. If I am honest I am tempted to buy the other two designs because as I have said before, a girl can never have too many bags.

Time to test some nappies

As you may remember a while ago the lovely people at Baba+Boo sent me a couple of re-usable nappies and a pack of re-usable wipes to test and if you don't remember here is the link to that article to refresh your memory http://mamamummymum.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/nappies-nappies-everywhere.html

Well Layla is nearly 6 weeks old, I have been using cloth nappies on her since she was 3 weeks old but I have been using my newborn and small size nappies.
Yesterday I decided it was time to try out the birth to potty nappies as they say you should be able to use them from 7/8lb upwards. I had previously washed the nappies and the inserts which you are told to do to build up absorbancy with nappies.

So I began by adjusted the nappy and the microfibre insert down to their smallest size placed the insert in the nappy, then I put a fleece liner inside ready to catch any stinkies that she might decide to do lol. I then proceeded to put the nappy on Layla. It was very easy to put on and the hip snaps are good to have as it meant I could get it tighter round her legs as well as her waist. Now Layla has quite skinny legs and waist so we ended up with a bit of a gap, I think we could have done with one more row of hip snaps to get a snug fit. However Layla seemed very happy in it as you can see by this picture.

The nappy lasted almost 2 hours before we got a bit of leaking from the legs but like I said previously Layla does still seem a little bit small for this nappy so when correctly fitted I think it would have last for atleast 3 hours. And remember you can always have more than one insert in the nappy to increase absorbancy.

When she needed changing I used one of the wipes that Baba+Boo provided me with. These wipes are double sided so one was definitely enough. All I did was spray it with water and wiped, nice and simple and no horrible chemicals on her bum!!! Then both nappy and wipe were put in a wet bag ready for washing, easy don't you think.

I am going to try out the nappy again in a couple of weeks once Layla has filled out a bit more.

Look at me in a nappy

Well while I'm waiting for baby hazelden to arrive I thought I would show you all just how long Baba+Boo nappies can really last for.

My youngest daughter is now potty trained but she was more than happy to model one of their nappies for me. Gracie is coming up to 29 months old now and is of average size. The nappy had one MF insert in it and was done up on the second tightest poppers for waist and hips so still plenty of room for a larger child. So when they say that they fit from birth to potty they really mean it.
