What I Read November

The first of December, I'm actually gutted that I haven't managed to put together a book advent for the girls this year but I'll be honest it isn't like they've got a lack of books at home! November was another slow month of reading for me but you can still what I read....

The Chalk Man by C. J. Tudor

Looking back, it all started on the day of the fair and the terrible accident. When twelve-year-old Eddie first met the Chalk Man.

It was the Chalk Man who gave Eddie the idea for the drawings: a way to leave secret messages between his group of friends.

And it was fun, to start with, until the figures led them to the body of a young girl.

That was thirty years ago and Ed thought the past was behind him. Then he receives a letter containing just two things: a piece of chalk, and a drawing of a stick figure. As history begins to repeat itself, Ed realises the game was never over . . .

This book was so good!! I managed to get an advanced copy on Netgalley after reading the blurb and I was not disappointed. A who done it with a really good twist, well worth checking out if you get the chance.

Songs About us by Chris Russell

Two months on from the explosive finale to book one, Charlie's life is almost back to normal again: rebuilding her relationship with her father, hanging out with best mate Melissa, and worrying about GCSEs. All the while, Gabe's revelations about her mother are never far from her mind. And neither is Gabe.

It's not long before Charlie is pulled back into the world of Fire&Lights - but the band seem different this time. But then again, so is she...

Meanwhile, tensions between Gabe and Olly continue to run high, leading to more turmoil between the band members and press than ever before. But when Gabriel and Charlie stumble upon yet another startling truth that links them together - everything they have stands to implode in front of them.

I love love love this series, what I don't love is the cliffhangers and having to wait til next year for the next book. This is the YA genre at its best in my opinion. Not all hearts and flowers but a really good story line to follow.

A Thousand Letters by Staci Hart

Sometimes your life is split by a single decision.

I’ve spent every day of the last seven years regretting mine: he left, and I didn’t follow. A thousand letters went unanswered, my words like petals in the wind, spinning away into nothing, taking me with them.

But now he’s back.

I barely recognize the man he’s become, but I can still see a glimmer of the boy who asked me to be his forever, the boy I walked away from when I was young and afraid.

Maybe if he’d come home under better circumstances, he could speak to me without anger in his voice. Maybe if I’d said yes all those years ago, he’d look at me without the weight of rejection in his eyes. Maybe if things were different, we would have had a chance.

One regretted decision sent him away. One painful journey brought him back to me. I only wish I could keep him.

Some of you are probably thinking not another romance but I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for them and this one was no exception. It wasn't a blow your socks off sort of novel but it was nice and easy to read.

  1. I really like the sound of The Chalk Man, I will definitely look out for that one. The other two don't sound like my cup of tea though.
