Rastamouse and Da Micespace Mystery Review

My kids have been known to watch an episode or two of Rastamouse on the television so we are already familiar with this character. The programme itself was actually created after the success of the original story books Rastamouse and the Crucial plan, Ratamouse and the Double Crossin' Diva and Rastamouse and Da Bag-a Bling.

rastamouse and da micespace mystery

Rastamouse and Da Micespace Mystery is latest story book in the series, created by Michael De Souza and Genevieve Webster.

The book features the lovely reggae playing mouse himself and of course da Easy Crew. The story starts when the Easy Crew receive a call from the President, a geek-a-mouse hacks into the Mouseland bank and steals all of the money. Fear not, Rastamouse has a plan.

It is quite a long story, spanning over 31 pages and there is a lot of paragraphs to be read. I like the length though because it meant that I could read the story over a few days instead of all in one going, keeping the kids in suspense for longer.

As you can see from the picture above, the writing is clear and catchy, the use of rhyming words gives the story a nice rhythmn. The text itself is written in a less formal font, more appealing to the younger eye.

I also love at the back that there is a glossary and abbreviations page which lets you know the meanings of certain words, perfect for us oldies that are not "down with the kids", for example, irie means anything positive or good and criss means very smart, the best, I wouldn't have known otherwise!!!

The illustrations are bright and fun, they really draw you in and add to the story itself. It was nice because even my one year old was happy to sit whilst I read the story to her older sisters because she spent the time pointing at the pictures on the pages.

We Hazeldens give this book a big thumbs up. I think this story would be a big hit for a lot children, it certainly proved to be popular with all of my daughters. It is entertaining and upbeat yet it still teaches a few lessons too, highly recommended.

  1. This looks really good for fans, the length surprised me for a children's book but you obviously got the right balance with spanning it over a few days.

I wouldn't have known what any of those words meant either!

    Thanks for linking up :)
