Lets Create a Play Area

I said at the start of the year that after 8 years of living in the same house, it was more than time to start making our house more of home. I'm talking anything drastic as unfortunately we are renting so can't do an awful lot, but a few changes here and there are definitely needed. Last month Layla's room got a Minnie makeover, so this month I thought it was only fair that I did something for the other girls, well it includes Layla too. They tend to play up in their bedrooms but I like to see and hear what they are up to so I made the decision to create a little play area in the living room for them.

This is the area that I chose to redesign :

As you can see, it was empty, plain and boring. It now looks like this :

indoor play area

Lots of lovely colours, a lot more welcoming.

We have a comfy reading area. I plan on changing the books on a weekly basis so they don't get bored of them.

And we now have separate tubs for toys and dolls. Making it a lot easier for the girls to find exactly what they want to play with. The tubs were a bargain at £2.50 each from Morrisons.

My favourite part of the play area has to be the rug. I found it in Pound Stretcher and it cost a small £7.99. I thought it would perfect to help the younger two with learning their letters, numbers and shapes.

The only thing I want to add to the play area are some wall stickers but I'm not sure on where's the best place to get them from, any recommendations would be much appreciated.

So what do you think? Do your children have a dedicated play area?

  2. This looks brilliant - it's amazing what you can do with a little bit of space and a few accessories.

Have you looked on verbaudets website? I have not tried their wall stickers, but I purchased most of the items for our boys playroom from there and it was lovely quality.

I hope you children enjoy their new play area :)

  7. It looks like you've made great use of the space. We don't have a dedicated area for playing, we've got a small 3 bed house with eight people so it's a bit of a squeeze! We rent as well so there's not even the possibility of an extension :(
