Book Tag - My Reading Habits

I was tagged by the lovely Fiona over at Little Cambridge Kitchen to tell you all about my reading habits. If you read my blog regularly to will know that I love a good book and I read whenever I get a free moment so this tag was perfect for me!!

Do you have a certain place at home for reading??

I don't have a specific place for reading, I am quite happy to plonk my bum down anywhere an start reading but there are two places that I find most comfy, my bed and the middle seat on our corner sofa. When on the sofa I liked to get curled up under my favourite blanket because I plan to be sat there for quite some time.

Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Neither. I've been given plenty of bookmarks in the past but I have to admit that I have never used any of them. If I am reading a good old fashioned book I tend to either turn the corner of the page over where I'm stopping or if I'm having a good day I will just remember where I got to.

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter or a certain number of pages?

I am one of these people that reads late into the night/ early hours of the morning. Once I start a book I am reluctant to put it down and stop reading as I am always eager to find out what happens in the end. Lets just say coffee is my friend!!!

Do you eat or drink while reading?

Yes, you will catch me with either a cup of coffee or a glass of wine in one hand with my book or kindle in the other and a packet of crisps next to me to dip into. Got to keep my energy levels up if I'm going to finish that book ;)

Do you watch TV or listen to music while reading?

No, I like to give the book I'm reading my full attention, otherwise I end up getting distracted and not following the story properly and that leads me into having to reread .

One book at a time or several at once?

Definitely one book at a time. I don't know how people have more than one book on the go as I think I'd end getting characters/plot lines confused and mixed up.

Reading at home or everywhere?

Generally I only tend to read at home as when I am out and about I generally have atleast one child with me which makes reading difficult but I do pop my kindle in my bag just incase I have the opportunity to stop and read somewhere.

Reading out loud or silently in your head?

The only time I read out loud is when I am reading a story to the kids. When it is just me and a book, the reading is always done silently in my head.

Do you ever read ahead or skip pages?

I have been guilty of sneaking a look at the end pages of a book before, I just couldn't wait to see how the stories ended but these days I like to read the full story in order as I like how the suspense builds over the pages.

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

Do you know I've never really given much thought to this so I suppose the answer would be breaking the spine, I guess it is nice to see evidence that a book has been read.

Do you write in your books?

I've never written in my books, I always thought it would ruin them and a lot of the time I like to give my books to charity shops when I have finished reading them. I sometimes wish I had highlighted certain things as there are quotes that I would have liked to have remembered, that is why I like my kindle so much as it is so easy to highlight certain sentences, phrases etc.

Now to carry the tag on, I'm tagging Vicky from Single Mother Ahoy and Beth from PlasticRosaries.

  2. Interesting to learn about people's habits. I love reading but since becoming a parent, I see it as a luxury. I mainly read in bed or on holiday - I love nothing better than an early night with a good book!

  3. When there are nice words that I want to remember I make it a point to highlight it! I know its probably killing it for the next reader but being so busy lately I just need to do this to remember the best bits. #pocolo
