The Weekend Box Update

Around this time last year I was given the chance to review The Weekend Box. This box was packed full of activities aimed at children between the ages of 3 and 8, the idea was to stop bordem from setting in on those weekends when perhaps you have nothing planned or bad weather stops play.

A year on and Weekend Box are still going strong, so good that in November of last year they won Start Up Of The Year at the Start-Up Loan competition in London.

Since reviewing last, there have been a few changes and I happen to think these improvements are very effective but the good news is that they still remain at the great price of £7.50 per box and you receive one every fortnight.

So what's changed? Firstly the actual box has had a small make over. The box can now be closed meaning activities can now be transported without getting lost, fantastic if your children plan on staying at say nannie's house and want to take their box with them.

Secondly each weekend box now comes with a theme. Rather than 4 random activities, each activity now relates in some way to the others. My box followed the theme of Chinese New Year. The activities included making fortune cookies, paper plate drums, Chinese dragons and Chinese lanterns.

And with these activities also comes a 'Talking Points' sheet. This allows your children to learn more about the chosen theme, gets them asking questions and extends the activities further. This I love as it makes the boxes educational as well as fun.

Our favourite activity had to be making the fortune cookies, food always wins when my kids are concerned. Easy to make, even my 2 year old joined in. We had to buy wraps, chocolate and oil in order to be able to create them but we were told in advance of receiving the box so we had all the ingredients there ready and waiting.

Something else that has remained the same is the certificate to colour in and the stickers on completion of the tasks. Everyone likes getting rewards for their hard work!! I was tempted to colour in the certificate myself, I mean I did help.

We still love these boxes. They are fun, keeping children occupied, giving parents a chance to enjoy some peace and quiet. They initiate extra learning and inspire so keeps those brains working over the weekend and they get kids working together, grasping the idea of sharing. Honestly there is not one thing I don't love about these.

If you fancy giving them a go, you can visit their site and use promo code MAMA which allows you to try your first box for free!!! (new customers only).

Disclaimer : I was sent this box FOC for reviewing purposes however all thoughts and opinions are my own.

  2. Oh these sound great - my daughter's a little bit young for them at the moment, but I might try a freebie! And definitely one to add to the list in a few months to keep her entertained.
