Go Away Hunger

One of the problems that I have one it comes to eating right/better is that horrid hunger feeling. I'm sure you've all had the same issues one time or another. It's strange really because there are some days when I just don't seem to feel hungry at all yet other days it doesn't seem to matter how much I eat, I just can't get myself to feel full.

One of the main times that I tend to think I'm feeling hungry is when I'm bored. The worst times are of an evening when my husband is working and the kids are in bed, I find myself at a lose end and all I can think about is food, items in the fridge start calling to me, well metaphorically speaking that is.

I've been trying to make a conscious effort to stop giving in to these cravings and I now how a few methods that are starting to help when I feel the hunger pains kicking in.

Water

Drinking a glass of water before I jump for the chocolate. This does actually work sometimes as it turns out in some cases that I was actually thirsty not hungry, I am awful for getting enough fluids in my system as unlike hunger, I don't ever seem to get the feeling of thirst.

Exercising/going for a walk

Getting up and moving takes my mind off what I was originally thinking about, now obviously I can't just get up and go for a walk when the kids are in bed so during those times I flick on an exercise DVD instead.

Reading

Again I'm concentrating on something else and being a bookworm it doesn't take me long to become engrossed in a story.

Hot Chocolate

Now if none of the above work but it isn't that I'm really hungry but more just craving food then I opt for a hot chocolate, I'm getting a sugar fix without it being completely calorific.

Going to Bed

I tend to stay up late but I find going up and sitting on bed, even if it's to watch TV instead of sleeping, being upstairs tends to stop me from reaching for the food in the kitchen.

Frozen Fruit

Now if all of the above suggestions don't work and it turns out that I am infact hungry frozen fruit is a great snack to have. I always have a stash of frozen grapes and bananas in my freezer. The fruit itself is sweet so you feel like you are getting a yummy treat and because it is frozen it takes longer to eat, meaning you digest the food properly.

Do you have any other tips for curbing those hunger feelings?? Comment below with your suggestions.

  1. Great tips! Promegranate seeds are a great snack too, because they take ages to eat!

  2. Tbh if I'm really that hungry I would just eat . . . on the days I'm not hungry I clearly don't need it. It's just about being mindful surely?

    1. yes this is true sometimes but my point is that sometimes you aren't really hungry and other distractions will prove if you are truly hungry or not and it helps especially if you are counting calories and don't want to go over your calorie allowance.

  3. Love the frozen fruit, frozen grapes are gorgeous! I have chocolate Ovaltine at night, it's packed full of vitamins but is still a treat. Thanks for linking with #BloggingToJogging xx
