Cheater by Rachel Van Dyken Book Review

Rachel Van Dyken is an author that I really do love. I've read many of her books so when I was offered the chance to read her latest novel Cheater I quite literally squealed. I was sent the book via Netgalley and I gave it a deserving 5 stars over on Goodreads.

Lucas Thorn wasn’t born a cheater. All it took was a single moment—say, a certain disastrous incident on the night before his wedding—and boom. Reputation destroyed forever and always. So now he owns it. He has a lady friend for every night of the week (except Sundays—God’s day and all), and his rules are simple: No commitments. No exceptions.

But a certain smart-mouthed, strawberry blonde vixen is about to blow that all to hell.

Avery Black has never forgiven Lucas for cheating on her sister. And suddenly being forced to work with him is pretty much a nightmare on steroids. Of course, it does afford her the opportunity to make his life as difficult as possible. But no good revenge scheme comes without payback. Because he didn’t become the Lucas Thorn without learning a few things about women.

Now Avery’s lust for vengeance has turned into, well, lust. And if Lucas stops cheating, it’s definitely not because he’s falling in love…

Ok let me first say that I do not condone cheating, I wouldn't do it and I certainly would not put up with anyone cheating on me however that's life and we all know it happens and everyone deals with this kind of situation in there own way.

What we find out at the beginning is that Lucas Thorn is a man that loves women and he doesn't feel the need to settle down with just one and this all stems from the moment where he cheated on his fiancé with one of her sisters, big mistake right there!

Then in walks Avery Black, the other sister, the one that lusted after Lucas all those years ago, the one that had to watch her family break down as one sister broke up the others soon to be marriage. All these years later Avery is definitely still attracted to Lucas but she's angry and unfortunately he is now her boss and she needs to make things work and that includes dealing with the constant procession of women going in and out of his office.

“It was all Lucas’ fault. Hating him was difficult. Being attracted to him was inevitable.”

Because you see Lucas has a different woman for every day of the week, except for Sunday because we all know that's gods day. But it's not cheating if all the woman now right? Well I guess in black and white that's true but I know as a woman that I wouldn't see it that way. But what do you do when you suddenly become fake engaged to this serial cheater in order to bring two families back together? Well you just roll with it don't you.

Now this story might not be your cup of tea and it might sound a little far fetched but let me tell you what you are in for. Cheater is literally laugh out loud funny, the dialogue is amazing and I dare you not to smile when reading, the banter and chemistry between Avery and Lucas feels oh so real.

Dr. Dupper looked between the two of us. “Your hymen is still intact.”
I looked up at Lucas and grinned, suddenly feeling quite pleased with the whole situation when I answered, “Well, he’s really small.”
Dr. Dupper burnt out laughing.

Cheater is a stand alone romance that will form part of the Curious Liasons series. Told from both Lucas and Avery's point of view what you are left with is something light-hearted, something weirdly romantic and something quite honestly swoon worthy. Filled with one liners that will have you crying with laughter, if you are in need of a good pick me up then this story is it!

  1. At the start of the review I was thinking this definitely isn't one for me at all! I'm not very into books about relationships anyway, especially not ones with lots of sex (which I'm assuming this must have), but I like the sound of the humour in it. Maybe I would enjoy it after all?
