Lady Pancake & Sir French Toast Mission Defrostable Book Review

If you haven't heard of Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast before then where have you been? These loveable characters have made appearances twice before in author Josh Funk's books and now they are back for a third adventure in their latest picture book, Mission Defrostable.

Everyone's about to become frozen food . . .

Someone has put a chill on the fridge that's hardened Pudding Pond and frozen Yogurt Falls. Agent Asparagus is on the case, and she needs Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast to join her superspy mission to the freezer.

But when Asparagus disappears, there's only one man for Pancake and French Toast to turn to: Baron von Waffle!

Will he help them save the fridge, or will they be stopped cold?

I fell in love with this series right from the first page of that first delicious book and just like before we start this next tale in the depths of the fridge and we begin with our favourite food heroes, Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast.

But something is wrong.

The fridge was so much colder than normal, freezing you might say.

But what to do?

These two heroes should know, they are quite apt at solving these kind of mysteries, would they be willing to take on a new mission? Well that is just what Agent Asparagus from the Fridge Bureau has come to ask.

'Someone's devised a despicable scheme. I need your help on my superspy team.'

But just as they accept the latest challenge, Agent Asparagus disappears.

She was gone.

Vanished without a trace.

Now who would help them with their latest scheme? There was only one man for the job, and I was as surprised as I am sure you will be when they headed towards their frenemy, Baron von Waffle. But he's the man that knows the freezer best and that must be the source of the problem surely.

'Waffle first laughed, made them beg, made them plead.'

And that's where we begin our walk through a fantastically refrigerated fantasy land.

Bananas and frozen fruit bars guard the freezer, will the team be caught, will the fridge food be destroyed?

The suspense is chilling (see what I did there!).

As a surprising enemy comes out from an icicle palace, an unlikely saviour lurks, ready to swoop in and save the day, to stop the culprit of the cold snap that's taking over and to become the rescuer that he perhaps always knew he could be.

'Perhaps she was right! Toast and Pancake were doomed. But out of the shadows, a monocle zoomed.

With the witty writing and hilariously entertaining illustrations that we've come to know, Josh has managed to keep this series fresh and exciting.

You cannot help but giggle your way through the story.

A modern day classic.

As emotions run high, new friendships are formed, lessons are learned, and as you reach the end of this rather scrummy tale, you will no doubt be left with a smile upon your face and the wish that there will be another story with these characters still to come.
