The Mumsnet Book of Animal Stories Review

the mumsnet book of animal stories
Mumsnet, Gransnet and Walker Books recently held a children's story competition for people to send in the own stories written about animals.

Out of hundreds of entries, 10 lucky people were chosen by a panel of celbrity judges which was chaired by former Children's Laureate Anthony Browne.

"Chairing the judging of the Mumsnet, Gransnet and Walkers Book children's story competition was a difficult task. The number of entries showed just how important story-telling is to so many parents, carers and grandparents."

These stories have now been compiled together into The Mumsnet Book of Animal Stories.

My girls and I were lucky enough to receive a copy of this book to read and review, we couldn't wait to get reading.

The titles of the 10 stories are shown in the picture below :

Each story is between 7 and 9 pages long. In my opinion, this is the perfect length as it was short enough to keep even my 2 year old engaged the whole time.

What I loved, is that each story is unique yet every single one of them was packed full of wonderful characters, lots of humour and overall truly captivating.

The writing gave me a chance to read with lots of expression which had the kids laughing a lot.

Bought together with the illustrations drawn by up and coming artists. These images which accompany the stories are colourful, funny and they have a brilliant way of encouraging the childrens imaginations to really run wild.

My eldest daughter wanted to post a little review herself which you can read below :

The animal stories book had a lot of well chosen stories in it.

I loved Basil the Brave best though because Basil must have been so confused wanting to fly at day but not at night and because it is coming up to Halloween so I thought it was fitting for this time of year.

Bobo the Elephant was good as well, Bobo looked ssoooo weird painted!

Yuri's cliffhanger ending was fab too. "Let's hope aliens don't eat hamsters." Hilarious!

I loved the whole book because every story in it had adventure and a good ending. It would be great to share with all the family, I loved it!

Overall The Mumsnet Book of Animal Stories is a well put together book, perfect to read together as a family or for older children to read by themselves, it managed to get the thumbs up from all of my daughter's.

It is beautiful treasury which will hopefully give the writers and illustrators involved a platform to go further in their careers.

Any book shelf would be lucky to have this collection sitting on it.

Disclaimer : I was sent this book FOC for reviewing purposes however all thoughts and opinions are my own.
