What to Wear to a Summer Wedding?

what-to-wear-summer-wedding

My lovely sister in law got married yesterday, hooray. But on the build up to the wedding I spent a lot of time wondering just what to wear. I mean it's tricky isn't it because of course it is meant to be Summer but we live in Britain so any sort of weather is possible.

Luckily my girls were all sorted for the big occasion because they were all bridesmaids so their outfits were all chosen and bought by their auntie, the colouring was all coral, orange, pinky so I wanted to almost blend in, I'm not one who likes to stand out in photos!

I changed my mind frequently on the outfit that I wanted to wear, in the end I wore something entirely different to what I'm posting now but I thought it was still too pretty not to share.

The only clothing I knew that I wanted was a maxi dress as it meant I'd be pretty covered up but at the same time not getting too hot if the sun decided to shine. After a lot of searching on the internet I finally found one that I wanted on eBay (got to love a bargain), it was a dress from ASOS so I knew it would be just as good in real life as it was in the photos.

My shoes were also an eBay bargain, £8 with delivery, can anyone say winning! High enough to stop my dress dragging all over the floor (perils of being short) but low enough that my feet wouldn't feel like they were dying by the end of the day.

Underwear took a while to find. The colour of dress was a hard one to match up with lingerie and the material turned out to be quite see through so it had to be an almost perfect likeness. ASOS to the rescue again with this gorgeous bodysuit, the bonus it held in my tummy, no need for control pants, you know we all wear them!

Jewellery wise I prefer to stick with silver as I'm allergic to gold and who wants a reaction when you're trying to look pretty? My mum gave me a beautiful silver watch, meant I would have to take off my Fitbit for the day, needs must.

It took me a while to find a necklace that I really liked. I knew the style I wanted, the plunging neckline on the dress called for a drop necklace but finding one in silver proved difficult. Finally found a beautiful dainty one in New Look.

Whilst in New Look I also managed to find a clutch bag to match my shoes. Nothing fancy, I'm all for basic, just big enough to fit in my phone, baby wipes (an essential) and my lipstick.

Once I had the dress accessorising it seemed easier, knowing what colours to choose. A lot of people like to wear hats of fascinators to wedding ceremonies but I'm really not that fancy so I chose to go with a flower hair band, gave a pop of colour to my outfit whilst remaining understated (well I hope so).

On the day I actually wore a pretty cropped bralet and knee length navy skirt, still accessorised with the same watch and necklace but I'll admit to buying another pair of shoes, any excuse right!? Not sure why but after trying on the dress for this post I just wasn't comfortable wearing it on the day. Do you have moments like that, liking something one minute and then doing a complete 180 degree turn the next?
