A Drawer Makeover

By now I'm sure you've noticed a running theme with my furniture makeovers, white is definitely the chosen colour. A simple change that manages to lighten up any room. This week my husband decided to upcycle a set of drawers and a mirror.

We bought these pieces of furniture just before we had to move out of our previous house, had we known that we'd be moving we probably would have chosen differently.

However we have well and truly caught the DIY bug so painting our existing furniture has almost become a hobby.

The process is easy and fairly cheap, one pot of primer and one pot of paint go along way. This time round they have stretched to a fireplace, wardrobe, drawers and mirror as well as skirting boards around our eldests bedroom.

Same as before, the furniture needs to be sanded down and cleaned first, as well as removing any handles etc.

Then one or two layers of primer need to be painted on.

Once this is dry you can paint over with your chosen colour, in our case white. You must be careful at this point to watch out for any runs in the paint.

To finish off the drawers we changed the original handles to crystal looking ones, this tied in with our built in wardrobes.

I love the reflection that comes off both the gloss of the paint and the handles, we had an array of rainbows on the wall where the sun was shining through the window.

What have you upcycled recently?

Since I renovated my first piece of furniture 20 years ago, as a teenager, I am a total convert. You can see some of my upcycling projects on my blog

  3. This simple change totally transformed the draws and makes them so contemporary. Good tip on the sanding, I know from experience this part is so important to get right or the finished effect looks too homemade! gorgeous handles too, I can just imagine the sun sparkling on them through a window. thank you for linking up with me on #Trash2Treasure
