Creating The Ultimate Man Cave

If you are a regular reader of my blog then you will know that my husband is a very out-numbered man, with a wife and four daughters to contend with I wouldn't be surprised if he is a little bit relieved when he leaves for work some mornings, escaping the chaos of all things 'girl' related. What he needs in his life is a space of his own that he can escape to when he needs a break from all of the hormones. So I've been having a little think on just how he could go about creating the ultimate man cave, notice I said him not me, well I'm not so good on the DIY front.

Anyway here are what I consider to be the top five essentials needed in order to create the ultimate man cave for the that all important male in your life.

1. The Room

To start a man cave you of course need a room to make it in. Unfortunately we don't have any spare ones going in our house so what better than a shed/garage. I've found loads over on a site called Lidget and I already know just the spot for one, right at the bottom of our garden.

2. Electricity

An obvious one but I thought it needed mentioning, no man cave could function properly without electricity flowing to it, I mean how would they get those all important gadgets working?

Protecting Your Home Against Flooding

The thought of your home flooding, destroying your most prized possessions or leaving behind hundreds or thousands of pounds worth of damage, will most likely send shudders down your spine. There’s a real issue in the UK with the threat of flash-flooding increasing and over three million homes at risk. I mean you must have noticed the recent weather we've been having, Winter in Spring? Now, more than ever before, there’s an urge to ensure all preventative measures are in place.

Wardrobes, Shelves and A New Space Made

When we moved into our home a little under a year ago we knew that there was plenty of work that needed doing. Not all of it major, infact most of it was more redecorating (damn wood chip). But one room that was in need of a do over was Freya's bedroom.

This bedroom is what would have been the loft. Now I'm not sure who designed this space however my feeling is that whoever did really needed they're eyes testing because what they done was quite frankly ridiculous.

Wallpaper, Paint and All Things Pretty

We've been living in our house for almost 11 months now and slowly but surely we are really making it our home. The trouble with home improvement is that it takes not only time but money, something that we are quite short of right now but we are managing to make little changes here and there at minimal costs. A bit of wallpaper here, a splosh of paint there, throw in a few accessories, it is amazing the difference the smallest of jobs can make.

Quotes To Inspire Around The Home

I don't know about you but I love a good quote. Something positive and inspiring. I find they can really uplift me if I'm down and motivate me when I'm in need of getting something done. So when I finally got my own home I knew I'd want to have these kind of words all around my home surrounding me.

In a bid to add a touch of decoration to our home I decided to take inspiration from the internet and create some word art of my own.

A Drawer Makeover

By now I'm sure you've noticed a running theme with my furniture makeovers, white is definitely the chosen colour. A simple change that manages to lighten up any room. This week my husband decided to upcycle a set of drawers and a mirror.

We bought these pieces of furniture just before we had to move out of our previous house, had we known that we'd be moving we probably would have chosen differently.

The Bathroom Tour

I put a picture up on instagram recently of the kids having a splash in the tub and I had a few people commenting on how nice my bath is. My bathroom is the only room that the previous owners did up and I have to admit that it is my favourite place in the house at the moment so I thought I'd give you the guided tour.

Turning Something Old Into Something New

Moving into a house is an expensive time, especially when there are lots of things that need doing around the house and furniture that needs to be bought. Trying to do things on a budget can prove difficult but there is a way to save the pennies simply by taking your old furniture and transforming it into to something new and shiny.

The latest project in our house was to get Elise's wardrobe painted, making it match in with the rest of her bedroom.

New Carpets Can Transform a Room

When we were looking around what is now our home, one of the things we weren't keen on was the carpet. The colour just wasn't us and dare I say it, it just look more ideal for and older person. However the owners were telling us it's good carpet blah blah blah and in the end when we looked at the cost of changing it we were tempted to stick with it. That was until the day we moved in….

Well first of all just let me show you colour.

You are porbably thinking it's not that bad, well then we noticed this…

Guide to Transforming Your Fire Surround

This year is all about home improvement. We bought our first home in December and now we are looking to do it up where we can. The theme I have in mind is blacks, whites and greys, a nice clean look. We are trying to do things on a budget and first up on the list was the fire surround in our living room. I wanted to transform it from the beech wood colouring to white and this post shows you just how easy it was to do.
